STUDENT COUNCIL I I I I I i I I I The Student Council endeavors to perform worthwhile tasks for our school, such as conducting elections and fund raising drives, overseeing the presentation of the Carnival Ball and Homecoming Day, and " Adopting " an Asian foster child. As a liaison between the students and the administration, it provides an outlet for students ' grievances and represents them when they desire to communicate with the administration of Stoneham High School. OFFICERS L. to r : Jane Waiczak, Vice-President; John Commito, President; Susan Barbo, Secre- tary; Mr. Campagna, advisor; Linda Mer- lino, Treasurer. 99 STUDENT EXCHANGE Each year an exchange of students is arranged by the student Councils of two high schools so that young people can learn about town governments different from their own. This year our exchange was with Newton South High School, under the guid- ance of Mr. Roger Lamson. Student exchange representatives Dianne Reagan, Lynne Burnham, John Hayman, Saul Weiss, Jeff Hansis (missing). Boys ' State delegates John Commito, Craig Sturgis, Richard Junker and Peter West. 100 GIRLS ' and BOYS ' STATE Students are given an opportunity to learn democratic government through participation at Boys ' and Girls ' State. Under the sponsorship of the American Legion and Auxiliary, a miniature state government is operated for a week in June by young people such as these chosen from high schools throughout Massachusetts. Girls ' State delegates Jane Waiczak and Claudia Hebard. STUDENT GOVERMENT DAY John A. Commito was elected by his fellow students to rep- resent SHS as Senator at the State House. Attending Student Government Day on Beacon Hill gave John a unique insight into the running of our Commonwealth ' s law-making bodies. John Commito INTERACT CLUB The Interact Club is comprised of young men who wish to be better informed of current events and international affairs. The club strives for international understanding and contributes to civic service. Front row, I. to r.: J. Fitzpatrick; S. Sloss, Vice-I esident; P. Donovan, Secretary; J.
