Where do we go from here what do we do next? Those were our first questions when we entered Stockton
High School as freshmen back 1n 48 There were forty four of us scared timid and shy Most of us were
fresh from country schools knowmg nothing of high school life
W1th1n a few weeks under the supervision of Mr Talbot our sponsor we held a class meetmg and elected
our officers They were president Peggy Pyle vice president Betty Preston secretary Lee Sell treasurer
Irls Edwards and reporter Gayle Collins
As we gradually became acquainted with our teachers and classmates we began to take part in school actxv
ities 1o1n1ng such clubs as F F A , F H A and Pep Squad
Then came our biggest thrlll we were to take part in the school carnival, Our representatives in the race
for carnival kmg and queen were Betty Preston and Lyndel Gordon We lost the race but won the knowledge that
to win we must work together as a class
Remember that first freshman party how disappointed we were when it ramed and how much fun we had
in the community building?
1949 and there we were agam sophomores
We were very proud of ourselves we knew ALL about high school or so we thought We were no longer
green freshmen
Our 0ff1CC1'S that year were president Iris Edwards vice resident Peggy Pyle secretary Betty Preston
treasurer Marlyn Shuler and reporter Gayle Collins Before e year was far under way our president moved
to another school and the vice president took over
Once again the carnival rolled around This year our candidates were Pe gy Pyle and Marlyn Shuler Again
we lost, but, under the sponsorship of Mr Bowen we made a better showing an the year before
As the year progressed we lost several of our members but gained enough to hold our original number of
forty four We were a small class but we were beginning to show that size rs not the only requirement,
Finally May rolled around and our high school career was half over
Fall 1950 At last we were Juniors We were no longer lower classmen,
Our class officers this year were president B11lF1sher vice president B111 Beydler secretary Pearletta
Turner treasurer Patsy Sell and reporter Evelyn Chrsm
Our first great event of the year was the carnival We chose for our queen and kmg candidates this year
Patsy Sell and Bill Beydler Under our sponsors Miss Hoff and Mrs Griffin we worke hard and lost by the
slenderest margin
The month of November was a full month for us The event we had planned for two years our class play
which was duected by Mrs Nelson was Junior Mister Also this month came our class party
At last we received our class rings' We had waited so long
Spring arrrved and another big event was coming up the Junior Senior Banquet, We worked hard at this
and were repaid by a successful banquet

fC1ass history continued from page 151
School was out at last We had finished our third and most enjoyable year so far and were eagerly awaiting
the fourth and last
1951 and forty two seniors were on hand to finish the last lap of the high school race We were running
strong and determined to do our best
Realizing how much we needed good officers during our last year we elected the following president
George Wyatt vice presrdent DarellLowery secretary Marie Miller treasurer Evelyn Chism reporter Gayle
Collins and sergeant at arms Bill Beydler Our sponsors were Miss Hoff and Mr Weir
We were asked if we wished to continue the annual Well here it IS What do you think of 1t'7
Thrs time when the carnival came around it found a class of seniors determined to win How we worked'
There was never a happier class than when Dee Sell and Gene Bryant were crowned queen and king of the 51
school carnival
We gained two new members but lost our president This raised our number to forty three
pictures were circulating and we ordered announcements and name cards The senior play became the center of
everything for a while and then ll too was over
The time seemed to fly Soon there were only three things left the senior IIIP sen1or week and graduation
Then we would no longer be seniors
But lookin back over the years we were not ashamed of ourselves We had not been perfect far from it
in fact We ha tried many things that were disappointments but neither were they failures Many t1mes we had
not worked together as a class but as the years passed we learned Of the forty four who started as freshmen
twenty eight would graduate as seniors There were forty three in our graduating class We were the smallest
class but through our four years our classmates were members and officers 1n every organization in school
As freshmen we asked where we were to go and what we were to do Once again as we reach for our
diploma we are asking the same question Where do we go from here and what do we do next?

Jerry Cantlon: "How did you like that blind date
I dug up for you?"
Joe Lee Levi: "Did you have to go all the way to

Max Baldwin: "Darn it. Two girls are in love with
me, The one I love is beautiful, but poor. The
other is a well-to-do widow, "
Mr. Smith: "And you want to know what to do?"
Max Baldwin: "Yes, Which one should I marry?"
Mr. Smith: "True loveis something you will never
regret. I'd suggest you marry the one you love, "
Max Baldwin: "Yes, Ithink I will. "
Mr. Smith: "By the way, do you have the widow's
address handy?"
Ill
Things are a lot different here than in my home
town," the visitor summed up after due deliberation,
"How is that?" asked one of the listeners,
"Here, in the winter, the gals sit around and hug
the stove and the men smoke."
"Yes? And what do they do in your home town?"
"Why, the men sit around and hug the girls and let
the stove smoke.

Which is more important in publishing a year book, the staff who plan and make the
book or the co-operation of the school and community?
There is only one answer to that question. One is just as important as the other, Co-
operation would be of no value without someone to make the book, and the staff would be at ' Q
a complete loss without co-operation,
Therefore the annualstaff wishes to thank the following for their help and co-operation
in making this "Key" possible:
The merchants of the R-1 district for their financial support,
The grade and high school faculty for giving their time, students, and class-
rooms to make possible the taking of pictures appearing in this "Key",
Our sponsor, Mr. Smith, for seeing that we DID get the job done.
The student body for their co-operation during the snapshot drive. ,Q
The following seniors, not on the annual staff, who helped us when we needed
help most:
For selling advertising:
Max Baldwin Darell Lowery
James Bugg George Wyatt
Gayle Col ins Donald Gannaway
Marie Miller
For art work:
Norma Pruett C 1
And last, but not least, each one of you who is now the owner of a 1951-52 8 .
