He told us he was married and lived in Chicago When I got off the train in Columbus to go to my hotel, I told Grace good bye and walked down the street I thought I would go into the famous Lazarus store to see about getting a gift for my sister, and as I walked ln, a handsome man met me and welcomed me to the store Who should it be but Melvin Wing, now the manager of the store? He asked me to sit down and see the shiek style show to be presented soon The model wore an exquisite evening gown with a mink coat ing room after the show and told me she wanted me to see someone I might know It was her secretary, and to my surprise it was none other than Faye Bufler, who had been abroad seven times since graduation I asked Faye and Lois what had become of Delores Browning They told me she had become the leading steno grapher at Ford's plant ln Detroit with eighteen stenographlc assistants After I left the store, I decided to go to the theatre and see a light comedy The stars were Donald Lang and Betty Gatliff in 'Life Is A Notebook' I went back stage, and they told me that they had been to all the forty eight states with this show and that it was scheduled to hit Broadway within three months When I arrived at a hotel, I found that all the rooms had been taken, but as luck would have lt, the manager of the hotel was none other than dashing Donald McIntosh who said that he would be glad to let me stay at his home H e home was beautiful It was an eleven room house with three baths His wife was very charming and his five daughters were the image of Donnie While I was there, they had a bit of trouble with a water pipe it broke and they had to call 9110 HB1-701' Plumbing c0mp8.!'ly The men were all out and said they would send some . o thrown over the shoulder. The model was Lois Lemmons. She took me to her dress- . 1 3 Pqeflun one as soon ae possible, but Mrs McIntosh said she had better call another plumber as the water might flood the house, so she called Brown's Plumbing Company They said- they would send someone over lmmedlatley We waited for about a half hour, and suddenly both the front and back belle rang Donnie went to the back door and his wife to the front Plumbers appeared at both doors The owners seldon did Jobs themselves, but since lt was for Donnie, they had decided to come themselves Of course, they were Eldon Brown and Melvin Halter When the Job was finished, we began to talk Both were leading business men 1 the city I told them they should team up as Laurel and Hardy CThat's a Joke, son The next morning I thanked Donnie and his wife for their wonderful hospl tality and told them that I must be leaving Donn1e's '52' Buick was in the shop, so he called a taxi for me I said goodbye and started for the airport as I had decided to fly the rest of the way out West 'Where to, lady'? said a familiar voice As I looked at him, I recognized him as being Gordon Holt asked him what he was doing driving a cab He told me he had been driving the ready saved over fifteen hundred dollars By that time we were at the airport, and I wished him the best of luck bought my ticket and boarded the huge trans port plane To my surprise who should be the pilot but that handsome Captain Tlrrel Burton He looked ever so fine ln his uniform and so dignified We talked for a little while, and he asked me if I had seen his wife who was the airline hostess I told him I hadn't, but I was very eager to meet her '0h, you know her a1ready,' he said 'You see I mar Oh, here she is now ' It was none other than Louise Bannister or Burton now She talked to me when she had an opportunity She and Tirrel were on the same run and worked every other week I was glad to see her She told me that two weeks ago she had seen Frances White, who is an artist for the leading magazines of the world She had gone to Europe to sketch a nursery scene for PPIHCHI El1zabeth's baby's room When I reached California, I went immediately to Hollywood, and whom should I see but Betty and Audrey Hunt who are stars in Paramount Pictures They look ed beautiful and both were married to producers in Hollywood While there, I stopped with my sister and brother in law and their seven year old child, Marcia who was in the Hollywood elementary school Marcia wanted me to meet her teacher, who she said, is the smartest teacher in the world. . n 7. . .
