THE STAR 1968 ew “ ShJ 9 T Sk C Jhyself . ppyoved lytnto QoJ. . 2 J im. 2:15 S teinbach Bible Institute Steinbach, Manitoba Jhirty-first year of )peration CHRIST OUR STRONGHOLD FORWARD Christ, Our Stronghold has placed on earth a unique entity. This entity Is a stronghold that Is not undermined by time . . . It grows In greatness, and , , , the gates of hell will not prevail against It. That stronghold Is ns and you His church . . . grounded In the will of Jesus Christ, Our Lord who guides, trains, serves, fellowships with us. United In this fellowship, we open to you, .our side of this story, May you continue to learn with us about this Rock to pray with us to this Rock to work with us to bring others to a practical faith commitment in our Rock — the Stronghold. ADMINISTRATION Christ, Our Stronghold has always planned for leaders and followers to work together. The leadership-framework is the channel for guidance. Through It the church Is helped to find goals and resources. Thus the united body Is mobilised towards an effective Chrlst-wltness to the neighbour. Towards this goal our administration-framework has sought to guide the area of the church she is responsible for — the students of the S.B.I. CM BOARD MEMBERS Mr. C. Wilbert Loewen, Chairman Rev. Henry W. Kornel- sen, Vice Chairman Mr. A. R. Reimer, Secretary Rev. Milton Fast Rev. Dave Sawatsky Rev. F. D. Reimer Mr. G. D. Reimer Rev. Nick Friesen Mr. P. B. Reimer Rev. Edwin Kiippen- stein Rev. Jake Rempel Mr. Harry Friesen Mr. A. F. Penner Rev. B. D. Reimer Mr. Clarence Fast statement of faith WE BELIEVE —the Holy Scripture, both of the Old and the New Testament, to be verbally inspired of God, infallible, and the supreme and final authority in faith and life. —in one God, eternally existing in three per¬ sons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. —that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true Man. —that man was created in the image of God, sinned and thereby incurred, not only physical death, but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. Consequently, all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are in need of the new birth. —that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross as our representative and substitutionary sacrifice for our sins and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. —the Lord Jesus Christ, was bodily resurrected and ascended into heaven and at present acts for us as High Priest and Advocate. —that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. —in the personal, literal return of the Lord Jesus Cnrist to judge the living and the dead and to reward every man according to his works. —in the bodily resurrection of all men — the saints to everlasting joy and bliss, the lost to everlasting conscious torment. —that Christians are to live separated from the world, abstain from all carnal strife, worldly practice, worldly dress and worldly amuse¬ ments. —that our generation is responsible for the complete evangelization of this generation; that every believer carries part of this respon¬ sibility and should make the reaching of this objective his life ' s work. 7 Establishing the school ' s framework faculty REV. Our Stronghold As we . . . met shared rubbed shoulders In daily fellowship; washing dishes peeling potatoes, class outings, dorm sessions, singing tours, Christian service. As we . . . struggled with speeches, quisles term papers, thesis scripture memorising to better equip ourselves for service. As we . . . say farewell to Instructors and friends to face our duty of witness and service In His field for us. HOLD HIGH THE TORCH graduates Hold High the torch: You did not light its glow— ’Twas given you by others’ hands you know. ' Tis yours to keep it burning bright. Yours to pass on when you no more need light. For there are other feet that we must guide, And other forms go marching by our side. Their eyes are watching every tear and smile; And efforts which we think are not worth while Are sometimes just the very help they need, Actions to which their souls would give most heed; So that in turn they hold it high And say “I watched someone else carry it this way. . .” Hold high the torch! You did not light its glow— ’Twas given you by others’ hands, you know, I think it started down its pathway bright The day the master said, “Let there be light.” And he once said, who hung on Calvary’s tree— " Ye are the light of the world . . . Go . . . shine for me.” ED FRIESEN, Pastors “That I may know Him. " The years of Bible training have been orientated towards this goal. Studies have en¬ riched my personal life and, I trust, will result in effective, faithful ser¬ vice. MARY ANN EIDSE, Christian Education May I let God order all my ways — trust in Him whate ' er betide; And I will find Him at all times, A very present Help and Guide. 20 PAULINA REIMER, Christian Education I feel His footsteps leading mine, I hear His voice speak words divine, His touch weaves all my life’s design, His wondrous face I see. MARY KLASSEN, Christian Education " O Lord, we are the clay, and Thou our Potter.” All the years that are left to me I give to Thy hand; take, break, and mold me to the pattern of Thy plan. ELMA BRANDT, General Bible If I commit my way unto Him and trust in Him, He will bring it to pass. What? The present — He has brought. My future — He will bring. LLOYD PENNER, General Bible Bible School has been a rich experience. The spirit¬ ual orientation received has made an indelible mark on my life. Faithfulness to this trust is now my responsibility and joy. ANNE PENNER, General Bible Paul was Christ’s love slave. He was bold to state to whom he belonged and whom he served. May I too build His Church by such bold yieldedness. EDWIN REIMER, Missions For all this united studying at S.B.I. has meant to me, I regret its sudden culmination. May strength be attained from God to successfully let knowledge be turned into wisdom. ALLAN FRIESEN, Pastors Oh Lord, of the years that are left to me, I give them to Thy hand; Take me, break me, and mold me to the pattern that Thou hast planned. DORIS FRIESEN, Christian Education Before me a future all unknown — A path untried; Beside me a friend well loved and known — that Friend is God. My past ex¬ perience and future assurance: “I will guide thee . . .” Psalm 32:8 HILDA FRIESEN, Christian Education I am thankful for God’s guidance in my life. A verse that has helped me to tackle something difficult: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” MARY KROEKER, Christian Education At His disposal and all for His glory — My talent, my time, and my strength; May this be, not only my duty, but also desire and delight. FLORENCE EIDSE, Christian Education Consecrate me to Thy service Lord ... by the power of grace divine — let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, and my will be lost in Thine. ELMA FRIESEN, General Bible “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” God’s faithfulness in the past assures me of guidance in the future. WALTER REIMER, General Bible ‘‘Draw nigh to God” James 4:8. Communion with God is the strength of my life; Faith in God, its rule; Servitude to God, its challenge; To know God, its goal BEN DYCK, Pastors For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel. DON WARKENTIN, General Bible “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! . . . He who comes from above is above all . . . He must increase but I must decrease.” (Gos¬ pel of John) MARY FRIESEN, General Bible " Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, Call ye upon Him while he is near.” Isaiah 55:6. This has been my aim here at school; and will be my desire as I leave this school. 22 RON SAWATSKY, Senior Matriculation But one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on to¬ ward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13b, 14 ANNE DERKSEN, Senior Matriculation My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most glady therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. II Corinthians 12:9 PETER PENNER, Senior Matriculation Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, un¬ movable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. I Corinthians 15:58 JOHN REIMER, Senior Matriculation “True enjoyment comes from activity of the mind and exercise of the body; the two are united.’’ Life at school provides both possibilities — if one looks for them. ALICE SCHROEDER, Senior Matriculation I thank the Lord that he has chosen me as one of his children, and that he has given me the privilege of going to a Christian school. BONNIE KROEKER, Senior Matriculation I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry . . . Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Psalm 40:1, I Corinthians 15:57. LEONARD MARTENS, Senior Matriculation Goals were set, some have been achieved, and others are still in the process. We are constantly challenged with greater goals. " Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1b EVA WIELER, Senior Matriculation But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.” Psalm 73:28 23 CARL DOERKSEN, Senior Matriculation “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” John 15:4 MARGARET ROSE BARKMAN, Senior Matriculation Ephesians 1:7 “In whom we have re¬ demption through his blood, the for¬ giveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” I am thank ful for all that the Lord has for me, and it’s my desire to be true to Him. JESSIE BRANDT, Senior Matriculation “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 REBECCA BARKMAN, Senior Matriculation It thrills me to think of all Christ has done for me. I’m glad He has saved me from sin and that I can claim victory over Satan through Him. 24 FRED KLASSEN, Senior Matriculation “I praise thee, for thou art fearful and wonderful. Wonderful are thy works! Thou knowest me right well.” How wonderful it is to serve a great and all¬ knowing God, who is willing and able to help! MENNO DOERKSEN, Senior Matriculation It is my prayer and sincere desire that I might follow my Master faithfully wherever He will lead me, since He has done so much for me in the past. GLEN KOOP, Senior Matriculation What have I that I did not receive? I Corinthians 4:7 God’s free grace, love of Christ in His death and resur¬ rection, eternal life, now and forevermore. Thanks be unto (Jod for His unspeakable gift. CAROLYN UNRAU, Senior Matriculation God has revealed Himself to me in a very real way this year. Before my life seemed empty and joyless, but John 15:7 has brought real joy, peace and assurance. ABE FRIESEN, Senior Matriculation Studying Mathematics, Anabaptist and Church History as well as Evangelism, I found both challenging and helpful. My prayer is that I will allow Christ to use me in His all-important work of soul-winning. GERALD BROWN, Senior Matriculation The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. KATHERINE PENNER, Senior Matriculation Trust in the Lord with all thine heart . . . acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:4, 5 I’ve found this true in my life; as I trust Him, He directs and guides. BEVERLY LOEWEN, Senior Matriculation I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. Psalm 121:1. I don’t know what the future may hold for me but I know He’ll guide me. Wilbert Friesen Kleefeld, Man. undergrads Steve Peters Steinbach, Man. Ron Derksen Winnipeg, Man. To the Graduates of 1967 . . . “Go . . . and tell . . . what great things the Lord hath done for thee.” This was the challenge you faced as you graduated — to go and tell about Christ in the home, in the office, in the factory, in the college, and on the street; in fact, wherever the oppor¬ tunity would present itself! We, the students of 1968, assure you of our continued prayer on your behalf. May you tell others about the forgiveness of sins through Christ’s blood and reveal to them the joy of a daily walk with God. We know that with God’s strength behind you, His love within you, and His arms under¬ neath you, your strength is more than sufficient for the task ahead of you! 27 Our characters— molded and strengthened in Christ. . . giving meaning to common tasks of daily life. . . making our encounter with others a spiritual investment. intriguing assignments— Church History essays. . . hermeneutical studies. . . psychological self-analysis. . . enjoyable highlights— pizza supper. . . visit to the Jewish synagogue. . . relaxation at Neil Friesens. . . and next year— or the next we might be. . . graduates! second year Grace Brown Steinbach, Man.
