To the Class of 1958:
It is a real pleasure to bring to the members of the Class greetings from the Board of
Education and heartiest congratulations both on the successful conclusion of your term in our
schools and on your new "Steel-High" yearbook.
Your Class has had the privilege of seeing "Foundations" laid during your Senior Year
which are expected to keep our educational system on the high plane for which all of us strive.
Just so, may the "Foundations" you have laid for your 1ife's work during your twelve years
in these schools give the support needed to make your lives the happy and useful ones we all so
earnestly hope will be yours.

With gratitude and respect the Class of 1958 takes pride in dedicating its yearbook to
Dr. Harold T. Griffith, first superintendent of the Steelton-Highspire School System.
Dr. Griffith merits considerable credit for his untiring efforts in the interest of the recent
jointure. Through the cooperation of the members of the Board of Education with Dr. Griffith,
a major benefit of this union can be seen in our community's new junior-senior high school
building, rapidly nearing completion.
Through conscientious execution of duty and sincere concern for the welfare of the school,
Dr. Griffith has done much to strengthen the firm academic foundations upon which our present
and future students may build well to meet Life's challenge.

Class of 1958:
In addition to the usual significance of graduation, you have the distinction of being the first
class to graduate under the name of the Steelton-Highspire High School. Your Commencement
marks the close of one epoch of education and the beginning of another in the two communities.
Although you are actually the products of two different school systems, your graduation is sym-
bolic of the first steps in the fusion of these systems for the benefit of all.
From recently laid foundations a new building worthy of the two communities is rapidly
emerging. Although the building will be new, the amalgamation of all that is best in our re-
spective traditions and achievements should serve to provide a firm educational foundation for
an even better schooling for future pupils.
You have our prayers and best wishes for future success and happiness.
H. T. Griffith
To the Seniors:
The credit for your being a senior is shared jointly by you, your parents, and your teachers.
Your future is now largely in your own hands. We hope we have helped instil in you the abili-
ty and willingness to make a worthwhile contribution to society at large and your community in
particular.
By all means continue to workin your church. You and your future family may then look for-
ward to success and happiness.

IN APPRECIATIGN
Yearbooks are cherished
as souvenirs of irreplace-
able high school days. They are
very special volumes Where one may
preserve tangible reminders of high school
joys and sorrows, defeats and triumphs. We
would like to express our appreciation to the
Boosters and Advertisers for the practical manner
in which they assured us of their interest in the publishing of
Steel-High", 1958.

Schools Recognize NEA Centennial
During American Education Week
The year 1957 was particularly sig-
nificant to the progress of education in
our country, for it marked the Centen-
nial of the National Education Associa-
tion, an organization that has played
such an important part in helping to
raise the quality of American public
schools to its high present-day level.
During American Education Week,
November 11 to 17, the Steelton-High-
spire chapter of this association en-
couraged the co-operation of teachers,
pupils, and local merchants in prepar-
ing window displays designed to stimu-
late a stronger community interest in
school activities. This effort proved
even timelier because of the NEA
Centennial. The photographs on this
page show clearly that the project
was a success.

S.H.S.
Oh, that dear old Blue and White,
That dear old Blue and White,
That dear old Blue and White
That Steelton Wore,
It was ragged, it Was torn,
For years it has been Worn,
That dear old Blue and White
That Steelton Wore.
Oh, that dear old Blue and White,
That dear old Blue and White,
That dear old Blue and White
That Steelton Wore,
We shall Wear it to the top,
No school shall make it drop,
That dear old Blue and White
That Steelton Wore.
H.H.S.
To thee We raise our voices,
To thee, dear Highspire High,
And our love for thee rejoices
With the dearest, fondest tie,
Our hearts no longer sever,
For we no courage lack,
But united stand forever
'Neath the Orange and the Black.
As We leave these Walls behind us
To enter life's great throng,
May I-Iis blessings be upon us
To show us right from wrong,
We may banish care and sadness
As we turn our memories back,
And recall those days of gladness
'Neath the Orange and the Black.
