myself in the reference room of a magnificent new building. As I
glanced at the shelves, my eye was attracted by a thin red leather
volume. Taking it down, I saw the title, 'Who's Who and Why in Steele
City.' Easerly I turned the pages and read the Preface. When I saw
how interesting it was I fled back into the NOW, bringing the book with
me. As I must hurry into the future again, before the book is missed,
I shall read it aloud to you. I am certain you will be interested.
"Who's who and Why in Steele City,' dedicated to the class of l9L7,
which class furnished the contents.'
'Preface. The only entrants who deserve e place on this roll of
honor are the members of the Class of l9h7, a distinguished and intel-
lectual group.
Do you wonder that I rushed back to you with the book after reading
its charming preface?
And now for the story:
'This book relates the story of the Class of 'L7 while on a plane
trip around the world, detouring to the moon The plane is called a
rocket ship, a new and clever ship just off of the assembly line
'At the controls was the very intelligent Effie Voorman, who always
seemed interested in World Affairs She had been told in school that
if she d1dn't want to be an old maid, she would have to get out and be
among men She had taken the advice and was opposite a handsome co
pilot The rocket ship shot into Washington D C where Effie had been
ordered to meet the newly hired stewardess Surprise of all surprises'
The plane had scarcely stopped when Effie saw Louise Kozak runn1ng to
ward the plane She was dressed in her new United Air Lines uuniform

She was to be the stewardess on this ship piloted by Effie Louise the
A serious minded senior of 'L7 was just as pretty and feminine as ever
E NX Effie and Loulse began talking over old times and the names of their
classmates were reviewed The two of them decided on a class reunion,
a trip to the moon, the new country Between them they found where the
rema1n1ng class could be found '
'Mike Banahan was the first on the list, as he was the nearest to
Effie's first stop Good old like' He was always the 'Bright Boy' of
the Senior Class effie said she had heard that Mike had the biggest
pineapple plantation in Hawail In a short time they reached M1ke's
plantation Nhen try1ng to land on Mike's big runway, E fie pushed the
wrong lever and they found themselves in the top of a pineapple tree
Mike had developed a tree for growing pineaoples instead of the usual
way For this he was known throughout the world as the pineapple king
They looked out of the window and saw a slxfoot, dark haired, handsome
man in his late twenties It was hike! That Hawaiian climate had been
just the thing for Mike and he was no longer the short boy he had been
in l9L7
'like got aboard and they started for France Norma Lampe, the ag
gressive one of the senior seven had ended her travels in Paris She
was the wife of a very successful engineer She was now the modiste of
a famous shop on the Rue de la Paix After landing, they decided to
eat lunch before they located Norma Mike spied one of the outdoor
restaurants and just as they sat down, Louise viewed a familiar face
It was horma buzzing around just like in the old school days '
'They ate lunch together and then decided to stop for Vernon Cassell
who was in Vienna, Austria Vernon had made quite a name for himself
He was a brilliant tenor, now singing all of the leads in the well
known operas Vernon was quite surprised to see all of his old school
mates and was very enthused about their reunion on the moon

the FUTURE, may I congratulate the Class of
l9L7 on their achievements
So back to our Jobs we go with glee,
what a happy bunch of seven are we.
First, there's Effie, our pilot and guide,
She's succeeded and now she's full of pride.
Then there's Louise, a petite stewardess,
who of adventures, she doesn't think less.
And here's Mike who raises plneapples now,
We'd always thought he'd be a farm hand 'wow'.
Vernon, our crooner, is an opera star,
He's doing better than Crosby--by far.
Norma, a songstress, is now a wife,
An ambition she's dreamed of all her life.
Avis has become a famous baton twirler,
She's now known as"The Whirlwind whirler'.
Last of all, Dick, our senior 'Romeo',
Is now an announcer on a radio show.

IIITIATIGI PIRTY
Jn Friday September 13, l9b6, the sophomores carried out the
old tradition of 'INITIATION' and made the new members of Steele
City High School feel as though they were a part of the student
body. The first stage in the procedure was that of altering the
freshmen's personal appearance for e day. The freshmen were
ordered to portray the characters, Daisy Mae and Lil' Abner- Of
course, the boys had to be the Daisy less and the girls had to be
the Lil' Abners. The six little freshies followed their commands
to the 'N'th degree even to the fishing poles and pails. The
freshmen were not alone in their suffering as the onions tied
about their necks caused even faculty members to wish for the day
to be over. The small group, however, took the events in stride
but uppermost in their minds was the question, 'what is going to
happen to me to-n1ght?'
In spite of a heavy rain which preceeded the party, the high
school students, with the exception of a few country folks who
did not dare tackle the muddy roads, mat to witness the final
blow. Some of the highlights of the evening were feeding one an-
other chocolate pudding--blindfolded, washing in ink, taking the
S.C.H.8. Oath, etc. These features were followed by a court in
which there was no Justice dealt out by the Judge,Student Council
'resident, Wallace Palmer The evening closed on a msrrier note
or the freshmen now full fledged high school students Joined 1

When the game is done ana he players creep
One by one to the Lefgue of Sleep,
Deep in the ght the ray not know
The way of th fl ht the fate of the foe
The cheer tl t massed, and applauding hands,
Are stillel last but the Record stands
The errors nde, Ind the base hits wrought,
Here the race mms run! There the fight was fought!
Yet the game 1s done when the sun sinks low
And one by one from the field troy go,
Their day has nassed throm,h the Twillbht Gates,
