ASA WATT DEAL Mr. Deal, who is a native of Iredell County, received his B.A. and M.A. Degrees from Appalachian State Teachers College. He studied at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. He came to Statesville Senior High School from Jonesville High School in Yadkin County where he was the principal for seven years. Previously he taught mathematics and coached athletics in the schools of Iredell and Yadkin Counties. Not only do Mr. Deal's duties include those of a principal but also those of a teacher. As a principal he acts as a constant guide to the students and teachers, as a teacher he instructs a class of second year algebra students. The extra-curricular activities at Statesville High School are an important phase of the school life and Mr. Deal is a loyal supporter of these activities. He is the sponsor of the Presidents' Club and also a chaperon for the annual Senior trip to Wfashington. lt is, therefore, with deep and sincere appreciation that we, the Senior Class of Statesville Senior High School, dedicate this, the 1958 edition of "THE TRAIL,H to MR. ASA WATT DEAL! A S A W A T 'I' D E A I I I W The first in the morning, the ones that stay After hours each and every day To further our learning and guide our minds Through these years, so that sometime soon all kinds Of problems can be faced by us With confidence and courage, truth and trust.
