Before embarking upon a college career many students have the impression that college life is much more narrow than it actually is. They plan on their college life being entirely social or academic or athletic.
We here at Western know that this is not true; but that college is a combination of many areas.
By using the College Kaleidoscope theme we attempt to illustrate the many aspects of college life.

3Dedication
Miss Dorothy Gelhaus
Helpful! Courteous! Loyal! These words describe Miss Dorothy Gelhaus who devoted seventeen years to Western Montana College, its students, and teachers. Nine of these years she served in the capacity of Registrar, leaving this position to become head librarian, a position which she held for the past eight years.
Miss Gelhaus will long be remembered for her friendliness and helpfulness to students and her interest in providing excellent library facilities for our college.
In addition, Miss Gelhaus was always willing to aid the dramatics department in the costuming of plays.
To Miss Gelhaus, we, the CHINOOK Staff of 1967, respectfully dedicate this yearbook and offer her our good wishes for a long and happy retirement! As Seasons Pass

DILLON DILLON 5,885!
The cost of educating one Montana child has more than doubled in the last 15 years. Today it costs $5,885 to send one child from the first grade through public high school.
Where does the money come from? From taxes—both individual and business taxes.
Of the $4,949,189 in property taxes paid by the Montana Power Company in 1964, about $3,000,000 went directly into education.
That’s enough money to educate 6,300 children for a full school year. Or it would build 115 classrooms ($25,000 per classroom), or buy 750,000 textbooks or pay the salaries of 580 teachers for a full year.
None of our tax money is more wisely invested. For it helps to stimulate and enlighten the minds of our young people.
In your hands rests the future of our state.
. rtrcr neirr
Montana Power COMPANY
SERVING YOU IS OUR BUSINESSIT'S THE PEOPLE
From a single mine in Butte, Montana, The Anaconda Company has grown into the world's largest non-ferrous mining and metal fabricating concern.
Over the years, Anaconda steadily expanded its operations throughout the Western Hemisphere and built its market from copper alone to a myriad of metals and fabricated products.
People were responsible for every step forward.
Today there are more than 40,000 Anaconda employees— geologists, miners, metallurgists, chemists, accountants, engineers, lawyers, salesmen, manufacturing specialists. They are members of a dynamic industry, performing an important job.
The future will rest in the hands of the same kind of good, capable people. Not only our industry, but every component that makes America great, looks to our schools and colleges for technically qualified people of talent and skill. They will share in the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
In America, under our Free Enterprise system, the choice of a career is YOURS to make. Whatever you choose, may success be yours.
