Express Wins Six State Awards THE ROADRUNNER EXPRESS staff writers won six awards in the junior college division of the Missouri College Newspaper Association ' s annual contest at the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May, 1979. Award winners were Chris Shaeffer, first place in editorial writing; Richard Wessley, first place in feature writing and honorable mention in special column writing; John Hutchinson, first place in sports writing; Lee Sheffer, second place in editiorial writing; and Susan Tobaben, honorable mention in feature writing. This was SFCC newspaper ' s first entry in the statewide journalism contest. EXPRESS staffers, from left to right: Susan Tobaben, writer; P. C. A bike-a-thon, jointly sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Pettis County chapter of the American Cancer Society, netted $4,000 in pledges. The May 6, 1979, event attracted nearly 200 persons between the ages of 5 and 57. Refreshments were donated by McDonald ' s Restaurant and Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. It was the first time SGA got involved in a bike-a-thon and in anything of this magnitude, said Jerry Greer, SGA sponsor. He added, Several young people rode up to 50 miles each. There was a seven-year-old who rode seven miles on a 12-inch bike that had training wheels. SGA Bike-a-thon Nets $4,000
