The appointment of Christian R. Thomson as principal of Start was one of the most important steps in weaving the pattern of our new school. Mr. Thomson had the task of getting the school ready for the opening day. Furniture, books, and special equipment had to be purchased and installed. The se- lection of a faculty required a great deal of consideration. Faculty members were trans- fered from Toledo high and junior high schools. Also some new teachers were hired. Administrators worked during the summer getting student schedules in order. The academic program is now estab- lished, but the activity program is still in the development stage. In the first year of oper- ation Start has a newspaper, yearbook, Stu- dent Council, band, and choir. Also a num- ber of special interests clubs have been or- ganized. The P.T.A. had a very successful member- ship campaign indicating that parents too are interested in weaving the pattern of Start.
