PROM r i JR. - SR. PROM JR. PLAY 8 r JR. PLAY This story involves the four Prentice sisters: Daphne, Kelly, Debbie, and Robbie. They are in a tremendous jam because they've undertaken the task of running their aunt's literary agency while she is in the hospital. The girls are having to play it by ear, and the complications arc hilarious. To pay for the aunt's expensive surgery, the girls get a big advance on an unfinished novel by a writer named Shirley Abernathy. The catch is that the complete novel is due, but no one can locate Shirley! She finally turns up and to everyone's surprise Shirley is really a man. What makes this a disaster is that the Amazon Publishing Co. has a strict policy to use only female authors! So when Guinevere, the lady from the publishing company and Olga and Bertha, her two assistants, meet Shirley, they are quite surprised and threaten a lawsuit. Throw all this excitement in with several blooming loves when Robbie gets her man, Rick; Kelly gets her fellow, Warren; and Debbie has her beau, Jeff, back from the Army. If this isn't enough excitement to the plot, we even have some witchcraft from a would-be witch named Samantha. The play cast and crew are: Martin Lamb, Shirley Abernathy; Paul Majors, Warren; Randy Philips, Rick; Rhonda Irons, Robbie; Jymme Carrington, Olga; Beverly Allen, Samantha; Janelle Shepherd, Guinevere Boldt; Robin Fish, Bertha; JoLynne Frizzell, Kelly; Debbie Linzy. Debbie; Lisa Yarbrough, Daphne; M'Leah McBryde, Make-up and prompting; Randy Morgan, Jeff; (Not pictured) Melissa Mills, Student Director; Robert Van Duren, Stage Manager; Hershel Shipman, Advertising. 10 11 r tmammmm 1 SR. PLAY Meg Wheeler goes to New York to find a career and a wealthy husband. Of course her overprotective parents and two old spinster aunts object when Meg moves into a large all-girl hotel. There she meets bored but witty Ada, stunning Lisa, delightful Jeanie, successful Terri, and Ruby and Heidi, who are worried about not being married. But romance comes with hard working Alvin, his un- derstudy Vince, successful Miles, and can't-lake-life-or- girls-seriously, broth- er Evan. Ellen and Jane arrive just in time to add to the comedy. Play cast: Lisa Yarbrough, Meg Wheeler; Scotty White, Mr. W'heeler; M'Leah McBryde, Mrs. Wheeler; Rhonda Irons, Aunt Lattie; Robin Fish, Aunt Fern; Debbie Linzy, Ada; Jo Lynne Frizzell, Lisa; Melissa Mills, Jeanie; Jymme Carrington, Terri; Janelle Shepherd, Ruby; Carol Weast, Heidi; Tim Moncrief, Alvin; Hershel Shipman, Vince; Martin Lamb, Miles; Randy Philips, Evan; Ragina Carr, Ellen; Danita Kay Haller, Jane; and Paul Majors, Student Director. It is further committed to seeing that every student should have the opportunity for the fullest development in mental, moral, spiritual and physical health. With child growth being at the center of the school's philosophy, the Board of Education has been propelled always in the direction of making improvements both in curriculum and staff development. One of the biggest responsibilities of the Board of Education is to see that the school plant is kept safe, up to date and adequate. All school facilities are now easily accessible by the physically handicapped; new lighting has been installed this year in the older elementary building and in the main high school building; and bids were recently opened so that work can begin soon to replace all doors and windows in the high school building. Star City School District is fortunate to have five very dedicated men on its board. 160 The 1982-83 Board members are: Jack Grayson, Grover Brockman, Robert Trout, Roland Conner, and Billy Summerford; D.F. Womack, Superintendent. D. F. WOMACK D. F. Womack is now in his ninth year as school superintendent at Star City. Through these years, he has demonstrated his administrative and leadership abilities many times in di- recting the school system toward a stronger curriculum, professional and in-service training. Under his direction, the teachers throughout the school system have had or will have the opportunity to attend a cycle of Program for Effective Teaching, which is a new approach to effective instruction that is supported and recommended by the Arkansas Department of Education. He has directed the school system through a building program involv- ing a new elementary building and a vocational complex, has assisted the elementary school in becoming a member of North Central Association of schools and Colleges, and assisted the high school in its NCA re-evalua- tion process in the spring of 1983. In addition, a method of teacher evalua- tion has been set up during his tenure. Mr. Womack holds membership in the Arkansas Association of Educa- tional Administrators, Arkansas As- sociation of Professional Educators, American Association of School Ad- ministrators, Southeast Arkansas School Study Council, American Le- gion, the Star City Chamber of Com- merce, Phi Delta Kappa, and a local church. He serves on the National Americanism Committee of the American Legion and the Teacher Certification Committee of the American Legion and the Teacher Certification Committee of the De- partment of Education. He is state di- rector of Boys' State, a 32nd degree Mason, and an Arkansas delegate to AASA. 161 SUPERINTENDENT Aileen Campbell has served 15 years in an administrative capacity. She holds a BSE degree from UAM and an MSE de- gree from HSU in Business Education. She is a board member and a secretary- treasurer of the Arkansas School Busi- ness Officials, a member of the Arkansas Association of School Administrators and Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, Star City Chamber of Commerce, Blue Cross Subscribers Ad- visory Council, and a local church. Her duties include district treasurer, business manager, Chapter I coordina- tor, office manager and secretary to the superintendent. Assisting in the central office are Joyce McBryde and Rene' Johnson. Mrs. McBryde is an administrative aide-re- ceptionist-bookkeeper of the district. She is a graduate of Dumas High School and of Capitol City Business School. Mrs. Johnson is parent coordinator, mi- grant records clerk, and an assistant in federal programs. She is a graduate of Grady High School and attended UAM. She is new to the Star City system this year, coming from the central office of Grady School District. 162. The role of High School Prin- cipal must be served by some- one who is dependable, hon- est, a hard-worker, and above all else someone who has a sense of fairness for teachers and students alike. All of these characteristics are met by the SCHS Principal, Ge- mit Phillips. He holds a BSE, MSE degree from Henderson State Uni- versity, and has completed additional courses at U of A in Fayetteville. He is a mem- ber of Arkansas Association of Educational Administra- tors, Arkansas Association of Secondary School Principals and is a member of the Ar- kansas State Board of the North Central Association. 163 HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION Irs. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working to put it to- gether. Norma Myrick 1983 It's been a great experience working in Rocket Staff. Alot of hard work, time, and laughter went into the 1983 Rocket. I've really enjoyed working with others and putting the Rocket together. I hope you'll enjoy the memories in the 1983 Rocket. Angela Moore It has been an honor for me working on the Rocket Staff. It seems like making a yearbook is a simple task, but it takes alot of hard work and dedication. Try- ing to make the deadlines and getting all the pages put together right was hard, but with Mrs. Holderfield's help we were able to get the job done. A special thanks goes to her and Mr. Brown. I hope you will enjoy the 1982-83 yearbook. Scotty White I've enjoyed being on Rocket Staff this year. It has been a great experience for me. We put a lot of hard work into the '83 Rocket. Hope you enjoy the Rocket. Paula Holloway I have really enjoyed working in Rocket Staff this year. It was a great honor to be able to work on the 1983 Rocket. Patience, time, and a lot of dedication went into this Rocket. We final- ly met all of our deadlines, thanks to Mrs. Holderfield. She is a wonderful person, who dedi- cates a lot of her free time to the Rocket Staff. A special thanks to Mr. Brown for taking and devel- oping pictures. I hope you enjoy the 1983 Rocket. Danita Kay Haller Working on the Rocket this year has really been an experience for me. A lot of hard work has been done on the 1982-83 Rocket and I hope you will enjoy it for many years to come. RHONDA IRONS Being on the Rocket Staff has been an experience I'm sure I'll never forget. It's funny the things you learn about people when you try to consider each person at SCHS and what they would like their Rocket to be composed of. It gives me a good feeling inside to know that I was part of such an important book. The memories captured on each and every page of this Book are very important to me now, but as time goes on I know they will be priceless. Being on the Rocket Staff this year has been a learning experience for me. I realize now what cooperating with others really means. I've enjoyed working on the Rocket because of all the hard work that was put into it and I hope you will enjoy it too. VIVIAN MOORE My senior year at SCHS has been one of the most memorable years of my life. The 82-83 Rocket has captured some of those memories for me and I hope it has done the same for you. You don't realize how much you really enjoy SCHS until it is almost over, so we have put together this book for everyone to be able to look back and remember those great times. My thanks to Mr. Brown and Mrs. Hol- derfield for their hard work and patience. RUSTY BOARDMAN I've really enjoyed putting a part of me into this book, and I hope you agree with me when I say The 1982-83 Rocket is the best ever! Thanks for all of your wonderful help Mrs. Holderfield and Mr. Brown. Without you two people this book wouldn't be possible! M'LEAH McBRYDE Working on the Rocket Staff this year has been an experience I'm sure I'll never forget. I never knew there was so much work in- volved in putting a Rocket together until I experienced it myself. It has taken a lot of hard work and time, but it has been worth it. This Rocket will mean more to me this year than ever before since I've put my time and effort into it. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I have enjoyed working on the 1983 2i6 Rocket. JYMME CARRINGTON Being in Rocket Staff has really been an experience for me. It took a lot of hard work and time, but 1 know in the years to come I will look back at this with good memories. 1 am very proud of our 1982- 83 Rocket and 1 hope that you will be just as proud. Good luck to the new members for next year! MELISSA MILLS I have really enjoyed being on the Rock- et Staff this year. It takes a lot of time and hard work to put it together but in the end it is worth it. Special thanks to Mrs. Holderfield and Mr. Brown. Without them we wouldn't have a yearbook. REBECCA CONNER The 1983 Rocket has been completed this year through much effort by the staff. It takes cooperation to complete all the phases involved in laying out this yearbook. Pic- tures have to be planned, taken, sometimes retaken, pages drawn until each one is com- pleted. Much thought goes into each indi- vidual page. We hope you enjoy this book and realize the work that went into it. MRS. HOLDERFIELD I've really enjoyed being on the Rocket Staff this year. Being Photographer was an experience I'll never forget. I never realized just how much time and PA- TIENCE you need to get the job done. I'd like to thank Mrs. Holderfield and Mr. Brown for their help and under- standing when the camera failed to work and when other problems arose. We have put a lot of hard work and time into this yearbook, and we feel it is one of the best ever. We hope you feel the same and will treasure this book for many years to come. LISA YARBROUGH The 1982-83 Rocket Staff is to be commend- ed for their excellent job of capturing the years activities in pictures and copy. It has been a pleasure to work with the staff and observe their dedicated efforts to exceed the high standards of past years.
