ROCKET ★ FORF.WORD It is said of old masterpieces that age gives to them a mellowness which the human hand cannot duplicate. We have tried to make this volume a book of memories—a book of ex- periences which we have caught as they hurried across the threshold of the present. We hope that this volume will have that value as it acquires age. THE ROCKET STAFF Editor............. Assistant Editor .. Business Manager Assistants ........ Art Editor......... Assistant.......... Russell and Assistant Superintend- ent C. R. Teeter. We are in deep appreciation of the many services they have rendered us and the intense interest they have taken in our school as a whole. Their interest is first to develop boys and girls into men and women of character, and second, prepare them to assume becom- ingly their responsibilities as good citizens of any community in which they may find themselves. To dedicate this annual to them is too little for us to do in their honor; yet it is a little way in which all of us may have a share. Thank you, Mr. Russell and Mr. Teeter, for what you have done for the Star City Schools. GYMNASIUM GRAMMAR SCHOOL HOME ECONOMICS COTTAGE AGRICULTURE BUILDING Fred McBryde, President ♦Leon Horne ♦W. A. Rogers Ill en 4IK i«i BAlFOUR SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE The year 1947-4.8 has been an important one for the Star City Schools. Our board of education, faculty, and com- munity have worked as one to provide better educational opportunities for the youth of the Star City School District. Many things have been accomplished, but there is much more important work to be done. Our big goal for next year is mem- bership in the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. To realize this objective will call for even greater expenditure of time, money and effort on the part of all of us but the results will be a greatly enriched and im- proved school program. We will all continue to work as one in meeting the chal- lenge of this goal. M. H. RUSSELL Superintendent of Star City Schools An opportunity to become the person one ought to become is the birthright of every boy and girl born into the world. In so far as the community provides that, opportunity it guarantees its future well being. In so far as it fails to provide that opportunity it invites and encourages evil. w. a. fish FACULTY Fish, Senior, Math; Joyce, Home Ec.; McKenzie, Music; McKenzie, Grammar School Principal, Drivers Training; Me- Graw, Physical Ed., Social Science: Reed, History; Rineheart, Commercial; Shep- hard, Science; Shumate, Secretary, Social Science; Shumate, Agricuture; Wade, Jr. High Eng.; Wheeler Physical Ed.; Wright, Senior High Eng. The chapter this year has carried out several interesting activities. Clothing has been given to the needy, parties have been held, and the District meeting at Monticello was well attended.
