Bill Gough, Beverly Bcrlic, Mzirion john Klnricli, Gi-rtrudc Kincaid, Noreen johnson, Austin Fcngler, Senior Class . . . ROSSING their bridge . . . three years of achievement, sportsmanship, fellowship . . . ending in a truly successful senior year is the record of the class of 1940. Heading the class of 630 seniors was Marion john Klarich. Cabinet members were Bill Gough, vice president, Gertrude Kincaid, secretary, and Beverly Berlie, treasurer. Noreen Johnson and Austin Fengler were chosen as Student Council representatives. As sophomores the class elected Dick Beckman, president, Mary Reid, vice president, Jane Wetherby, secretary, Bettijane Erickson, treasurerg Ruth Taylor and Bob Wilhelmi, representatives to Student Council. In the Junior year Dick Beckman was again chosen president. Other oilicers were Peggy Shaw, vice presidentg Jane Wetherby, secretaryg Joan Bonnell, treasurer, Ruth Taylor and Frank Hicks, representatives to Student Council. Ranking first in scholastic achievement were Shirley Nyman, valedictorian, and David Glenn, Rat Russell, Ruthi Crain, and elden, who tied for salutatorian. Commencement speakers were Shirley Nyman and Dave Glenn of the honor stu' dents, Jack Pascoe, student choice and Mabel Ramey, faculty choice. For the second time i'She Stoops to Conquer was presented as the Senior Class Play. The leading roles were double cast and the romantic leads were taken by Shirley Nyman and Gale Smith, and Barbara Phillips and Jerome Stickney. Under the direction of Barbara Tissot and Jim Fisher the senior sweater dance, The Dogpatch Dip was one of the most novel and successful dances of the year. Marjorie Fox and Fred Angus were chosen as Daisy Mae and Li'l Abner. Marjorie Engelbrecht, voted by the senior girls for outstanding character as the Stadium candidate in a national D. A- R. contest was sent to Washington, D. C., where she represented this state. Seniors with.-lea.di, roles in The Desert Song were David Glenn, Paul Raymond, Jane Loren,lE'ry Walters, ichael Gaidosh, Mel Novikoff and Margaret Repetto. Ruth Taylor ilii an'd'j'ack' Pascoe were cofchairmen for Football Night. Prominent in Girls' Club and school activities were Mary Jo Reid, Beverly Birdsall, Evelyn 4AndersQ, lean Button, Kathryn Newschwander, Peggy Shaw, Eleanor Mullins, Harriet Cline ,and Dorothy Herstine. .X-an VV-V --W2 Among the boys active in sports and school activities were john Klarich, Rod Giske, Wes Hudson, Fred Angus, John Batt, Stan Morton, Matt Kapovich, Dick Beckman, Dave Glenn, Gerald Meier, Don Brown, Bud Clzendam, Bob Hayward and George Warter.
