My dear Graduate: This Far - Now Further. The first phase of your theme for your Yearbook must fill your hearts with gratitude and a sense of deep satisfaction. I sincerely congratulate you on the accomplishment of your Goal - a Professional Nurse - toward which you set out three years ago. As you glance in retrospect over these three years of training you will recall periods which every normal student experiences, days of fears and tears, homesickness, joys and happiness. All these suc- cessfully controlled, together with the ethical principles and nursing skills inculcated by e f f i c i ent instructors have prepared you for the second phase of your theme - Now Further. Perhaps at this stage you are experiencing a different feeling, one of intrepidation as you launch out alone, and yet not alone, for your faith in God will ever serve you as a stronghold in the responsibil- ities and sacrifices which you will encounter in your dedicated life, It is my hope and prayer that you will fulfill these well, always bearing in mind that in serving the Sick, you are serving Christ. God love and bless you always, Sister James Marian Hospital Administrator

COUNT-DOWN FOR THE TAKE-OFF What do you think of today --- 'now further' --- as you look out over the material universe around and before you? The past few years, when you glance back- ward, --- 'thus far' --- have, in part, set the stage for the drama ahead --- 'now further' --- . . . Your education has consisted of numberless, varied pieces and fragments: each tiny fragment --- God willing --- a jewel completing the priceless mosaic --- the masterwork of God's creation. There have been many influences in your professional education which, if pro- perly intertwined in this masterwork, will aid in directing you to your final goal and the achievement of your ultimate purpose in life --- 'eternal possession of God'. While your choice of nursing has been made freely and you did not realize the many implications of a profession dedicated to the service of man, none-the-less you have, at least, in a small way experienced the reality, that this vocation is a service of sacrifice and unselfishness. --- For where there is love, suffering must follow: your life of service will be activated by your love for your Creator. What are your thoughts and aspirations for the days ahead --- 'now further' -- . . . ? Without doubt, they are many and varied and I pray for you, that by the grace of God, your life-work will be directed and blessed by God's providential care. Keep CHRIST always before you as your model --- See CHRIST always before you in your patient --- Love CHRIST always among you in the people who surround you --- Carry CHRIST always within you to others --- Find yourself, always, at rest in CHRIST --- Days will pass and with them - problems, difficulties, --- moments of peace and utter bliss, moments of anxiety and frustration. Each event is given to you by a loving paternal hand, that you may, under His fatherly direction, -beautify and ampli fy His art of creation in your soul. Be at peace - be at rest in God's providential loving care. You are God's astronaut --- the universe is your boundary --- It is His wish that you carry His love to all points within the universe surrounded by your potential orbit. You must spread God's love! You must make known Christ's love, manifested in His sugeme suffering and death for love of His Father for all men. You will be lifted on high and your rest will be within His arms --- if you give yourself completely to His loving providence. GOD BLESS YOU! Director
