Finalists await the judges’ decision on who will be crowned Miss St. Stephens 1982. The judges ponder their tabulations in making their final deci- sions. The annual Miss St. Stephens Pageant began once again with the Grand March of the 58 lovely contes- tants who were chosen from homerooms, clubs, and other organizations. The pageant itself progressed smoothly, especially with the aid of the experienced pageant director, Mrs. Violet Kale. After viewing each contestant’s poise, personality, grace, and overall appearance, the judges completed the tedious job of choosing ten finalists. With the competition narrowed to ten, they then completed the even more difficult task of selecting the final three. Second runner-up was Kathy Good; first run- ner-up, Jennifer Taylor; and Miss St. Stephens 1982, Kim Starnes. Selected as Miss Congeniality was Lau- rie Dunton. “NIGHTS ON BROADWAY” Prom night found SSHS juniors and seniors and their dates arriving at a beautifully transformed gymnasium decorated to enhance the theme “Nights on Broadway. Those usually clad in jeans and sweatshirts were dressed in feminine formats and tai- lored tuxedos. While the rested, relaxed seniors enjoyed dancing to the music of “Hokus Pokus, many juniors tried to forget that only a few short hours earlier they had been harriedly completing last min- ute preparations for the memorable gala. The waiters and waitresses, busy serving “Manhattan Mush- rooms,” “Broadway Barrel of Cheese, and other such delicacies to upperclassmen, remembered the thrill and honor of being se- lected to serve and thus to attend as sophomores a special event. They also thought of the anxiety attacks they experienced while practicing their dance, choreographed by Beth Cline and Donna Dagenhardt. Community members Mrs. Rita McBride and Mr. Leonard Godfrey relaxed as they proudly admired the decorations which they helped prepare. Assisting once again because “I enjoy work- ing with these kids, Mrs. McBride stressed that she had only to answer questions and supervise due to the leadership, creativity, and hard work of junior officers Beth Haas and Brandi Maye, as well as that of their classmates. Faculty members Mrs. Donna Maye and Ms. Deb Wakefield, along with other junior homeroom teachers, also contributed to the success of the evening. The trip to Broadway was entertaining and enjoyable for the hosting junior class and the honored guests — the seniors. Facul- ty members and parents chaperoned a well-behaved group and even joined the festivities. Good style and technique is shown as the waitresses and waiters dance to “New York, New York.” Student Body President crowns Lynn Lytle 1982 Prom Queen. Taking time to pose for their picture, the 20 sophomore waiters and waitresses Students and guests enter a memorable “Night on prepare for an unforgettable evening. Broadway.” 10 Prom
