A chorus consisting of juniors sang up some memories from the fifties. Decorations were based on the Fabulous Fifties” and thus enhanced the mood of the theme. Sophomore waiters and waitresses served food and dressed to set the mood for the prom. Twenty-four sophomores performed a dance in the style of the fifties. 17

Fabulous Fifties Live Again The Bobby Sox 50’s came alive in silver and blue on April 26 at the annual Junior-Senior Prom. The junior chorus sang a few ‘‘oldie goldies.” There were twenty-four sopho- more waiters and waitresses. The girls were clad in long skirts, white blouses, bobby sox and saddle oxfords. They sported bright red lips and cheeks. The waiters wore tight jeans and white T-shirts, they even had a cigarette pack rolled up one sleeve. Let’s not forget the coolest look for guys in the fifties — that greasy, slicked-back hair. For entertainment, the waiters and waitresses danced the jitterbug. The food that was provided consisted of petite cakes, pimento cheese and chicken salad sandwiches, potato chips, pickles and coke. Queen of the prom was Brenda Sweat, her attendants were Mary Bolick, Robin Suttlemyrc, and Christy McMahan. Elaborate decorations and a good band set the mood for dancing. Background music induced slow dancing . . . and fast dancing! 16

TOMORROW IS OURS Anticipation and excitement were apparent as the Seniors filed into the gym to receive their diplomas on the night of graduation. “Tomorrow Is Ours,” not only sets the theme but also the mood for graduation night. After this night the Seniors all go their separate ways. Some will further their education by going on to college while others pursue vocational careers or domesti- cated positions. Graduation marked not only an end but also a beginning. An end to high school and a few old friends, but the beginning of new life and some new friends, as well as new experiences- On the night of graduation some of the class left for the beach. The class also has plans for a reunion in five years. Three graduates leave the school with smiles on their faces, and diplomas in their hands. Mrs. Terry and Mrs. Harris watch Mrs. Westbrook cheer for the new graduates. 18
