INTRODUCTION “To Dream ... To Strive ... To Achieve!” is the theme for the 1974-75 Corona. This theme ties in with the motto of the graduating class, “Today's Dream is Tomorrow’s Future.” In order to accomplish anything, one must first have a dream. We students at St. Stephens have worked hard to achieve our goals, which have stemmed from individual dreams. In the opening pages of the Corona, the artist has tried to illustrate the theme of the yearbook using an indian. This indian has a dream to build a fine teepee. The accompanying photographs are of inci- dences where dreams are being created. Later, we see the indian struggling with the materials as he is building his teepee. Here, the photographs depict students at St. Stephens working toward achieving their goals. Finally, we see the indian sitting proudly before his completed teepee; a truly fine one which he made with his own hands. There is no better reward! 8

WE DEDICATE THE CORONA TO Principal Charles J. Bost The 1975 St. Stephens High School Yearbook is dedicated to a man who is willing to spend fourteen hours a day at his job — a man who will be viewed with suspicion and criticism regardless of what he says or does. Being the principal of a high school is an awesome task. Mr. Charles J. Bost is in attendance almost everytime the door to our school opens. Out of the 180 day school year, it is estimated that he is here for school related activities 130 nights. This gentleman is not only responsible for the education and well-being of the student body; he is also responsible for the faculty, office personnel, maintenance personnel, cafeteria staff, buses, the building, and all the financial affairs of the school. A brief history of Mr. Bost would reveal that he graduated from Claremont High School, Claremont, N. C. in 1940. He attended Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, N. C. on a full double scholarship for basketball and baseball. He has been known to remark that his education cost him a total of $10 in the four years. This, he splurged on an annual. While at L.R. Mr. Bost lettered in 3 sports — baseball, basketball, and football. After graduation, he signed a contract with the New York Giants Baseball team for a $500 bonus. He later secured a release from the contract, and played semi-pro locally. During WWII, Mr. Bost served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Arkansas. He received his M.A. degree from Peabody College, and served as teacher-coach at Banoak School, 1947-50. He became principal of Banoak 1950-54. Next, he was principal of Mountain View School 1954-64; then he came to St. Stephens High in 1964. Mr. Bost’s interests range from his Church Mem- bership at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Hickory, to his and Mrs. Bost’s participation in a dance club. Mrs. Bost is the former Catherine Deal, and they have two sons. Carl Lee is a Senior at N. C. State, and Charles Michael is a Senior at Hockory High. In appreciation for Mr. Bost’s dedicated service in the field of education, the student body of St. Stephens High says, Thank you.”
