5-A Diehl receives basketball award ATHLETIC ASSEMBLIES The School Athletic Assemblies are held to honor the athletes of all the teams Three ln the assemblies, each coach gives a brief resume of his season and then presents the letters and awards to the team members The Varsity Coach usually gives a sketch of each game evaluating his team man for man In addition to the letters presented there is the Spirit Award given to the boy who has been the greatest inspiration to his team through his courage and effort although he may not have been the standout on the team The Unsung Hero Award is given to a Varsity player rn conjunction with the McCormick Unsung Hero Award and Banquet Captains of the Varsity teams receive trophies called the Captain s Cups Tradition has it that the boys of a team give to their coach a present or memento Page 48 of our yearbook represents a presentation to a fine coach 85 ' 5 'x times a year the school meets to pay tribute to the players of each different season.
