82160 QP -ie -.LL Y ggi' 'C ,..v-' LANGUAGE CLUB Seated bark rou, left to rzghl Robertson Barne Low Jordan Front row W Clark 'Nlorrow Clarke btandzng Tyler THE LANGUAGE CL B Orgarnzrnfr the Language Club presented qurte 1 problem rnrtrallv, because 1t1me uhrch fitted the schedules of all those who wrshed to become members could not be found The regular club perrod was out, as many of the lnterested partres were already members of other clubs whrch met at that trme Another obstacle was a rule whlch states that no boy may belong to more than one club exceptrons to thrs berng the Monrtor and the Monogram Club These, however, were merely temporary setbacks to boys thustrnff for knowledge, and soon the members were meetrng durmg the seventh perrod every Wednesday wrth therr faculty advrsor, Mr Gentrle Peter Keeler and Tony Tyler were elected presrdent and secretary treasurer, respectrvely The purpose of the club rs to cultrvate rn the members a better understandrng of languages and therr relatronshrp to one another They study the ways rn whrch vords have evolved from ancrent trmes and compare the srmrlarrtres and drfferences rn varrous languages Storres have been read, wrth the able assrstance of Mr Gentrle, rn French, Spanrsh Latrn, and Englrsh Occasronally the boys depart from therr usual path to drscuss such varred subjects as famous parntrngs the lrves of great men, and toprcs of current rnterest Although the Language Club has been rn eustence for only one school year, everyone who has partrcrpated fully agrees that rt has been 1 truly W0ltl1Wh1lC and enlrghtenmg experrence The members are lookrng forward to contrnurng thrs pleasant assocratron next year 67 . g 1 ' - ,, 44 ufianimtxgt Q, ,,A - 5 .5 1 lg.. f LJ VM na can BUSINESS MANAGER OF THE MONITOR Reg Smrth Thrs year The Monztor was presrded over by Edrtor lnCh1ef John Duvall John, dew otrng much of hrs trme consrstently put a tlne Issue to press Assocrate Edrtors Bruce lVlcPherson and Ed Freeman also helped mth the publrcatron s preparatron The always able Busuress Manager was lrustlrn Reg Snrrth w ho pr ovrded so many ads that people sometrmes wondered where the news was The sports department grunted and groaned under the strong arm of Sports Edrtor Al Folcher Al who was eonsrstently on the scene wrth pfrper and pencrl as well as the squad of farthful reporters recorded the efforts of the school s athletes from rntranrural scrrm One of the most enjoyed features and probably the Hrst one read by all was Deadparr Streett Whrteford s Pot Luck Humor Edrtor Whrteford noted for hrs satrre and double errtendre kept the student body rn a constant uproar Arrnong the Alumnr by Bruce McPherson drd a partrcularly fine Job rn keeprng the students rnformed on the actrvrtres and rn helprng to create a stronger tre between past and present at St Paul s Facrng up to such problems as reverence cheatrng and coke bottles the edrtorral sectrorr squarely saw the srtuatron as rt was and added a great deal to the cooperation of the students The edrtorrals contrrbuted by Edrtor Duvall and hrs penetratrng Assocrate Edrtors, were some of the more pertrnent features of The Monztor The superb photography that has appeared thrs year was due to the untrrrng darkroom efforts of Gordon Lyons and Armstrorr Formrn who deserve a great deal of credrt for therr fine work Crrculatron Manager Thomas Youn Hrpped The Monztor rnto the open arms of the ever wartrng publrc and drd a good job rn helprng the paper make rts rounds Mr Warrrner represents faculty lrarson as a eommrttee of one to scan the copy before rt goes to press All rn all The Monitor has had a fine year and 1t looks forward to a polrcy of brrngrng first thrngs first to the student body of St Paul s 69 9 3 K: I , '9, A, ! r lt ,555 t- . .
