Pennings, offered the Solemn High Mass commemorating the opening of the 46-47 scholastic year. What most freshmen did not lcnow was that the celebrant of that opening Mass was the founder and president of St. Norbert High School. Qver fifty years ago Fr. pennings landed in America. When he and his fellow missioners settled in De Pere they set about opening a school for boys. The year the school opened, four boys enrolled and Father Pennings was their teacher. From this humble origin developed St. Norbert High School. Though today not directly associated with the student body, the zealous spirit of Abbot Pennings is reflected in our faculty, mem- bers of the Norbertine Qrder, of which Abbot Pennings is superior.
