3' '-3 VARSITY BASKETBALL Robert Glowacki, James Murray, Edward Hlovach, Stanley Gurski, Anthony Petoche, Fred Lipinski, Coach Walling, Dennis McGovern, William Witterschein, Bill Lockmeyer, Sam Yanuzzi, Mike DePalma. Despite inexperience and lack of height, our boys' basketball team still managed a winning season. Led by the seniors, Josh Gurski, Ed Hla- vack, Bill Witterschein and Bill Lockmeyer, and spurred on by the fine example' and excellent coaching of Jim Walling, the boys placed second in the Catholic Conference Tournament. The Horseshoe Champs , as they are labelled, put up a good fight in city play, and finished third behind Lincoln and St. Peter's, two of the biggest JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL Robert Sghggfgr tMonagerl, James Murray, John Mulligan, Robert Langon, Patrick Donovan, Robert Tarenz, Coach Walling, Stephen Zaccardi, Neil Degnan, Kenneth D'Andrea, Michael DePalma, George Connors, Brendan Keegel. 104 teams in the state. Among the notable city vic- tories were the two wins over Ferris, a long-time rival, and two victories over a strong Snyder team. Aiding the seniors in our successful season were starters Mike Yanuzzi and Dennis McGovern along with iuniors like Fred Lepinski and Jimmy Murray, and plenty of help coming from Mike Depolman. With these and other returning veterans, the stu- dents can look forward to another winning season in the '59-'60 campaign. Baseball After last year's fine season, and with return- ing veterans, like Jimmy Platten, Bill Witterschein, Bill Lockmeyer, Richard Barber and Mike Zadroga, St. Michael's is confident that it will have a suc- cessful season. The future strength of the club will be deter- mined by the large number of Freshmen candi- dates who have turned out for the club, many of whom seem very promising.
