The essence of communication is learning f a language. In grammar school, we ore tau| principles that construct a lifelong foundation, Once ; high school, we are given the opportunity to expand otJis knowledge by undertaking the challenge of learning a second or even a third language. The experiences of newly encountering a language never before spoken can be at times unnerving but, once tenses are sQt straight and inflection begins to sound natural, thl experience becomes fascinating and beneficial to j student. The language department at St. MatthH includes French and Spanish classes. Both are offered fl four years, even though the language requirement is oM two years. By offering a language for four years, t H language department insures a student ' s preparation fof taking the language in college. Ms. Morad, the French; teacher, advises her French students: It is very importan| that you learn your lessons well because they will mal college French much easier. Like ail other acadenaj subjects, learning a high school language is equally 9 beneficial in preparing for the future. ■
