Meets the Eye ' •v -v . Adventure in dangerous careers attracts many people. One such person is Stiimberly McKinney, whio is currently an Explorer for the Police Department in ttie Southwest area. She started as an Explorer recruit in August of 1982, and is currently a full-fledged Explorer, or E-2 as they are officially called. She has earned two trophies. In her future are college and the Police Academy It has been eight years since Adriana Perez took her first piano lesson and, unexpectedly she admits, ' I hated piano - anything that had to do with music Adriana has since changed her views on playing the piano and feels that it has become her way to express herself. She began her lessons at the East L A Conservatory of Music and has token private lessons at Col State LA. She has one first prize at a talent show sponsored by the Women ' s Guild no I A Anna Ortega, with bandaged knee and lettergirl sweater, obviously stands out as on injured athlete Anna enjoys a tough game and won ' t allow an injury such as this to interfere. Her knee was injured while diving for a ball As G A A. President she also has responsibility As Anna said, I enjoy striving to win Kothy Vela, St Matthias ' premier actress, is a level-headed young lady who appreciates the advantages of going to a Catholic school When she came here she began to realize her deep interest m drama When asked about the sort of things that being at St Matthias has taught her she said, it ' s taught me to be reliable and how to make rehearsal on time ' M

Anabel Castro is considered one of the best artists in school. She has taken several classes in the subject, which have contributed greatly in the development of her talent. She has also participated in outside activities with her drawing. She has entered two contests, one in which she was awarded second prize. Like most artists, she has a favorite subject she enjoys drawing: Adam Ant. Anabel has done numerous drawings of him and says, I will continue to do more as long as I have the ability to do so. SMH ' s Seniors: More thor Kristi Martin, alias Krazy K posesses a talent that is considered special: Dancing. At the age of twelve, through observation and strenuous practice, her love of dancing emerged. She specializes in pop and has earned the reputation of being excellent at it. When asked why she enjoys dancing so much, she said, ' 1 was born to dance. Every weekday except Wednesday, Rosa Garcia is seen rushing through the halls and out of the school door en route to Senator Art Torres ' office in downtown Los Angeles. There she enjoys two hours as a volunteer. Rosa explains, It ' s like a family. Her job is helping constitutents who seek social service and other clerical work. Elena Viera has had little experience in public speaking, but in it she has excelled. Last year she participated in a speech contest on the topic: Nuclear Use or Misuse . She enjoys public speaking because, It ' s a way to express my opinions more freely. For many people it is hard to be composed in front of a large group of people, but composure for Elena is not difficult to achieve.
