I Get Around The '76-'77 varsity basketball team will be remembered to have lost the battle but to have actually won the war. The Panthers, under Coach Jack Altenburger, lost the SBC crown to Huron in a highly contested battle 9-8 but won the war of the St. Mary's Invitational beating Port Clinton 2-1 in the finals to claim the crown for the first time in its ten year history. This year, the team's leadership rested on the shoulders of five seniors, who nicknamed the club cardiac express , and rightfully so since the Panthers came from behind to win nine out of fifteen games. Five of the six season losses came by a one or two run margin. In the sectional tournament, the Panthers clobbered Norwalk St. Paul C10-49 but later fell to Gibsonburg in the finals C5-41. The young Panther squad consisted of four juniors, four sophomores, and eleven freshmen. The referee declares Dave Seeley C1325 the winner ! Sophomore Tony Gaiati 11657 greets his next opponent. Tryin' To Get The Feeling The '76-'77 JV baseball team, under the direction of coaches Pat Leone and Chuck Lococo, ended a disappointing season with a 3-6 rec- ord. lnexperience was the key reason as over half of the players were freshmen. The Reserves grabbed victories over Perkins C15-25, Margaretta C3-lj, and Clyde C6-51 but fell to St. Joe and Sandusky twice and to Margaretta and Perkins once. Jeff Veith talks over pitching strategy with Robby Glovinsky and Coach Lococo. 131
