lt's Going To Take Some Time Coach Wally Amburn's reserve basketball team closed out a disap- pointing season at 7-11 overall, in- cluding a 3-9 SBC slate. Of the eleven losses, nine were one to five point decisions. The JVs showed both strong individual and team improve- ments, bettering last year's 3-8 mark as freshmen. A bright spot for the JVs was the Panther Classic tournament, where they captured first place, defeating Old Fort 56-41 and Danbury Lake- side 38-37. The 76-77 freshmen basketball team, guided by first year coach Jim Metzo, regained the SBC crown for the first time since the 72-73 season. Sparked by co-captains Geoff Palmer and Phil Bickley, the young Panthers stormed their way to an 8-1 SBC record, enroute to an overall record of 11-1. They ran off six straight victories, defeating Norwalk twice, and Perkins, Margaretta, Huron, and Lakeside once, before being upset by Perkins 41-36. They came back to win their last five games in order, stopping Perkins 57-43, crushing Huron 70-49 and finally disposing of Tiffin Calvert 53-52, to grab the SBC crown.
