I F Baseball was brought back to the sport pic- ture of St. Mary's High School last year 119551 after a lapse of two years. Even though the schedule was limited to ten games, the team came up with a four and six season. The able effort of the coach, Mr. Zenon Sosnowski, helped in this short campaign. Once again under the leadership of the same coach, St. Mary's High School will play a similar schedule. No longer will be seen the ever eager faces of the seniors of 1955, nevertheless a nucleus been left to field an active team. Moreover, this year in order to prepare for baseball future of St. Ma1y's High School, we have invited some of the boys from the eighth grade to try out for the varsity nine. With the kind understanding and patience of the coach, this will be future material. The schedule this year will be home and house games with: Holy Name High School of Worcester Sacred Heart Academy of Worcester St. Louis High School of Webster Notre Dame High School of Southbridge Among the retumees of last year will be Ted Wyrzykowski, Sonny Kulesza, Bill Rodwell, Anthony Ruchala, Thomas Kimbar, Eddie Krzy- nowek, Dick Galkowski, and a host of others. We, students of Saint Mary' s High School, are also defenders and apostles of Her Son' s Kingdom within us and in the world about us. Our firm adherence to the Catholic faith of our fathers took deeper root during the years at Saint Mary' s, giving us the spirit- ual force necessary against the assailant. By per- severing work under the watchful eye of the faculty we fortified our minds through a basic education to interpret intelligently Catholic principles and by our apostolate to spread knowledge and love for the lofty ideals of truth and goodness. Through team- work displayed in athletics, through en oyment of social events, and through extracurricular activities we developed a sound and healthy body as befits a defender of the Faith. l . Sisters root for the team at the Lawrence Tournament. F rom left are Sister M. Praxede Sister M Humiiia Sister M. Stephen, Sister M. Suzanne, Sister M. Hono ria Sister M Benedict Sister M. Martina. Our varsity quintet won ten straight games in Central Massachusetts Catholic League Di- vision II, thereby entitling our school to retain the trophy for the second consecutive year. This year the team held a ruling hand, and dominated the league. The season started slowly with losses much to a disheartening effect on the team. Neverthe- less, after tasting victory against St. Mary's of Waltham the picture changed for the season. Due to the fine showing during the winter months, St. Mary's was honored with two invita- tions in post-season tourneys, one at the New England Catholic Basketball Toumament held at Lawrence, Massachusetts, and the second, the Assumption College Invitational Tourney. At both of these affairs the Eagles of St. Mary' s suffered defeats bringing to the end what would have been another glorious chapter in the basketball history of St. Mary's High School. Theodore Wyrzykowski and William Rod- well with that winning look in their eyes.
