DEBATE - Resolved That . . . Western Debate group. Members of the Arlene McNeil, Dorothy Walker. SOME ASPECTS OF THE RUSSIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM SHOULD BE ADOPTED INTO THE AMERICAN EDUCATION SYSTEM. S.M.C.H.S. DEBATERS took part in the Tri -State Meet held at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota on December 5 and 6, 1958. The St. Mary's team gained third place by merit of their seven wins out of ten debates. Sister Barbara Ann, debate instructor accompanied the Debate Team: Robert Krause, Bill Brown, Mary Tschider, Alice Long, Joanne Hoff, Betty Jane Dressler, Ellen Conmy, CO-CURRICLI LAR CAPERS Boys' Night Boys' Night is a new feature this year. Every boy has an opportu- nitytotake part in various activi ties under competent instructors. Tim Wolf and Q?j enjoyed wres- tling under the supervision of Mr. Earl Steidler. Pyramid Formation Twenty-four girls cry, Hurry up! Help lay the mats! when tum- bling practice begins every Monday after school. The Tumbling Team is a newly organized club under the direction of Mrs. E. L. Martinson, Physical Education Instructor. 29 G,A.A. President: Dee Ann Deibert, Vice-Pres: Marcia Considine, Secretary: Cletus Reis. They schedule volleyball and basketball games for the weekly meetings. x 'Q

LUB 3 is T' I SCIENCE FAIR Bill Kirchmeier, '58, placed among the top win- ners in the State Science Fair in Jamestown on April ll, 1958 and was entered in the National Science Fair in Flint, Michigan on May 5. The Bismarck-Mandan District Science Fair will be held March 21, 1958 at St. Mary's C.H.S. The State Fair will follow at Grafton, N.D. Sister Maxirnine is advisor for the Senior Division and Sister Eileen for the Junior Division. VITAL INNER our! in PULP RPN 44,0 X i L Quill and Scroll Initiation On March 18, 1958, seventeen senior studenm were received as members of Quill and Scroll, an international honorary society for high school journalists. Reverend Robert Feeney, MARILOG co -advisor and student Religion instructor was guest speaker. In his address he spoke of Catholic school publications and the obligations of young writers. Following Father Feeney's address candidates received their pins and repeated the pledge of loyalty to the Quill and Scroll Society in a candlelight cere- mony. Initiates to Quill and Scroll: Irene Lovin, Carolyn Braus, Patty Reis, Marilyn Peterson, Christine Hall, Janice Gunville, Karen Rausch, Patty Taix, Agnes Schneider, Bob Fischer, Nancy Hiedt, Jack McDonald, Marilyn Kwako, Jerry Whitaker, Mary Jane Coad, Corrine Carufel, and Mary Ellen Peterson. ORGAN Bill Spencer and Eugene Diede's Electro-Mechanical organ won one of the district awards in last year's con- test. Each year students from the Bismarck- Mandan area take part inthe District Science Fair. Last year Kathy Degen and Frances Weiss won a trophy in the -. This year the Speech II Class under the direction of Sister Barbara Ann gave the Dear Departed, a one act play by Stanley Houghton for the Annual Catholic Theater Festival at Immaculate Conception School in Stephan, S. Dak., Oct. 27. Mr. Slater: Bernard Faber. Mrs. Slater: Helen Bosch. Victoria: Justine Kuhn. Abel Merryweather: Bob Krause. Mrs. Jordan: Nancy Nelson. Mr. Jordan: Tim Wolf. Last year the Speech II Class presented The Boot by Anton Chekov for the Class A Speech Festival in Rugby, April 17-18 under the supervision of Mrs J. F. X.
