FIF TY GOLDEN YEARS Emigration and its vital effect upon a peopIe's faith and moral fiber are certainly not new phenomena to the mind of the Church. They have been of great concern to Her for many years. One is not or should not be particularly surprised, there- fore, at such papal pronouncements as the Apostolic Consti- tution, Exsul Familiae, which established the importance of the ministry to the immigrant and his family, setting forth a program for such apostolic endeavors. It is with the wisdom of long experience that the Holy Father, Pius XII, warned priests to make every effort to prevent assimilation of the immigrant from taking place at the expense of natural rights and to the detriment of religious and moral values.
