They have played ball for four years and have brought glory to our team and school. We are really proud of them and of their spirit. They have played hard, and as they leave us we wonder what the rest of'the team will do without the big seven next year. Although Tullius, Wharff and Zide have been the outstanding scorers, the other members have contributed their efforts in no small degree. Finkel's long shots saved the Sum erfield game, Tornes' tap-in's under the basket came in handy many times, Schilling, the pivot man, helped in some pretty tight spots, and Sarver's willingness spurred the team on to greater efforts. Lanny Gardner, Eugene Baumgard and Bill Landsittle gave the score a boost in several games, and are left to carry on the glory of our team next year. With Coach Father Adams and his able assistant, Dick Weber, the boys coming on should go far in maintaining past records. There were lh wins this season--some good, some bad! The game with Vincent Bobcats was one of the best. The Irish held a seven point lead going into the last period, but the Bobcats downed the Irish eventually. The second time the Irish staked a claim at the foul line to upend the favored Salem Liberty's Cardinals, the Irish pulled through in the over-time to win 66-63. Salem Liberty's Cardinals knocked the Irish from the county tournament in the first round of battles with a 6?-53 conquest. Salem thus avenged two regular season defeats at the hands of the Irish. Thus ended the 1952-S3 Cage Season. Compliments of Thomas L. Schwenderman 37 ' W, -an , OUR JUNIOR SENIOR PROM Www OUR Czligiiijikx FIRST COMMUNION DAY C wg? 1 EIGHTH I I GRADE 38 C oy S r. 1? Ty Dear Marian, We understand that you are interested in the history of our none-too-famous class. Well--Our first big day in high-school took place a few weeks after school started in 'h9. The graduates of that year made us look like savage head-hunters, with our strings of beads and girlish makeup. We barely lived through the first semester and soon found that we were elected to decorate the church hall for the yearly Valentine Dance It was then, that we showed the student body of St. Mary's we were a part of it. With the help of our home room teacher, Sister Mary Thaddeus, for whom we had a high regard, we set the hall on fire with a lot of dancing and good Weatsn. Time passed quickly during of high school and we were all sorry when school ended. . 4 'H II our first year As Sophies we found ourselves seated in a new room, with a new teacher, but that didn't hold us back at all, and we started things off with a bang. Sophomores now, and a little bit too big for our shoes, so our home room teacher, Sister Mary Rachael, had to administer a few unwanted Nu written assignments, and put a stop to things abruptly. Basket- H' ball hopes rose in the latter part of February, but Matamoras de- E,' feated us in the semi-finals of the County Tournament. It seems as if time flies as you look back over the days. The leaves were pop- ping out all over, the final day of school rolled around, and we were all happy to run out the door with no books in our hands and with the consoling thought of freedom. Soon, '52 rolled around and Sister Sebastian took charge of our up and coming class. Now things were getting tougher and the playing around ceased. Physics, Algebra ll, P.O.D., and Typing were becoming part of the daily schedule. However, we managed to find plenty of time for amuse- ment when the Fighting Irish set the hardwoods of the state on fire. UVICTORYIN WVICTORY!N was our cry during the four months of the basketball season as St. Mary's compiled a season record of 16-3. After basketball season came to a glorious end, our class rings ar- gs rived and everybody was walking on a cloud. We took on other class projects which consisted of school dances, bingo, trips, picnics, and a whole Usha-banguof other things. Then came the biggest thing of all--our Junior-Senior Prom. Everybody was running and fussing, but when the time came, everything was settled and dignified. We had a wonderful band and a big time. A few days before school ended our class, accompanied by Father Campbell, set off for Lake Hope. Food, games, swimming, and loafing ended our third year of high school. F nl, Bobby Zide was elected coxswain of the Senior crew, and he has done a grand job of guiding us, thus far. During the first few months of our last year in high- school, much studying was on the schedule, but we found time to decorate the hall for our yearly Christmas dance, better known as ,HEY ' . The studying isn't getting us down too much looking forward to our last three months of tournament over, we have on hand the Year Book, washington, the Senior Play, the Prom, and last the nBishop's Ballu however, for we are school. The county a wonderful trip to but not least, Graduation. As we walk down the aisle to receive our diplomas, I predict that there will be tears in our eyes. we will be leaving our Alma Mater. It has been our goal for the past four years, but now that it's here-Oh Cordially yours, Steak House Mg Secretary, The Oasis 39 I o E ER H LL R'E A WE if LEYFGTU S 'IUDIOS BY MARIAN PHO 'IOS '53 -in Wu. i 5 .
