However, the serious nature of the St. Mark's student reaches far beyond the classroom. On the playing field, the Marksman works cooperatively on a time or individually with mental intensity and physical prowess to achieve his highest goals. As well, Marksmen participate in the propagation and expansion of school activities and organizations. In working through these, students enhance the quali- ty of school life, as well as demonstrate sensitivity and responsibility for the com- munity around them. Finally, the St. Mark's student is serious in one further aspect: in having fun. They are not afraid to show their casual and humorous side, even in the classroom. Whatever feat he at- tempts or in whatever pursuit he shows in- terest, the Marksman gives his earnest all. . 's It is to this Serious Business that this book is devoted.

Serious Business Life at St. Mark's School of Texas is Serious Business. As an institution of higher learning, St. Mark's is oriented toward the education and preparation of young minds for university study and the world that lies beyond.
