12 The Irfth Avenue bus drew to a stop rn front of St Patrrcks The day was one of those strflrng ones whrch frequently descend upon New York and smother the crty rn a steamrng haze of heat And yet as the organ musrc drrfted through the open doors of the cathedral the heat somehow seemed less for the trme berngj Hummrng the tune cxen rfter the bus h rd left St Patrrcks block be hrnd I found myself unconscrously formmg the th rt was my class song' Back rt took me to Sarnt Margrrets and memorres of those four years so long? rrgo Wlrrt agonrzrnrg experrence h rd rccompanred the nostrlgra of the frrst few days hrst srrfferrng the stranrjeness among new and ereerly helpful classm rtes as they hurrredly unpacked rnd put every thrng rway rn obscure corners then berng one of the unlucky two to lead rn the sadly mrsgurded row rn ch rpel There was also the embarrassment of arrrxrng at meals late only to meet wrth r loud out burst of clapprng from the Senrors and then the horrrfyrngly narrow escape when I was wrrned just rn trme that the mrddle steps bore a non trespass rng srrjn for all but the Senior clrss But 1 few weeks later how drfferent everythrng w rs rs rll of us entered rnto the sprrrt of our frmous Vrrgrnrr Reel when as freshmen we shocked the frculty by our nrneoclock capers Tlrrs was not the last of our rnsgenrous rdeas for we staged an unprece IPAIST HISTORY dented srt down strrke whrch unfortunately w rs drsrupted by the rrngrng of the last bell And we certarnly gave the Senrors much competrtron w rth our freshmen steps whrch were for them awkwardly srtuated on the second floor The lazrer members of the school never apprecrated the errly mornrng srngs whrch we held there but four years seemed so long to h rye to wart for steps of our own Nor drd rnyone seem to apprecrate our efforts when stepped rnto breakfast to present Mrss Ildell wrth r be erutrful pumpkrn We launched our class wrth the electrons of Brrbrrr Phrllrps as charrman rnd treasurer Prt Boswell And how we gloated oxer the prrrses of our Irunny Paper Party on whrch we h rd struggled for sexeral drstractrng weeks under the calm but enthusrastrc superxrsron of Mrss Carrrngton our class advrser The songs and skrts were well recerxed rnd no one could ever forget Mary Ely rs the Trmrd Soul Sprrng sacatron came rnd Dr Lewrs gave us r few humorous but lustr fred words of advrce as we departed Our return was saddened by the news that he was srck and even though Ireshmen we too experrenced the deep feelrng of the chrpel followrnrg Dr Lewrs death I was rndeecl lucky to be a member of hrs last conhrm rtron cl rss Summer vacrtron arrrved so qurckly then th rt we werent preprred for frrew ells but hnrlly rn rnaged to break rw ry rmrd crres of See you next fall' Wfrth ophomore yerr our whole class returned i I 4 V ' if I-Y .
