I was there, and I ve forgotten the debate itself, but one thing that day Ill always remember that an nouncement, late in the afternoon, short, terse, yet foreshadowing such a difference in our lives, both at school and at home The Pageant not only was more beautiful than ey er, but struck deeper chords than in preyious years Peace on earthl' was gone but not the hope for it Life continued, but at a doubly accelerated pace after vacation Essay s loomed large and ominous, ey en vital weekends melted under stress of school actiyities The war brought many changes, material and otherwise, and we did our part in many ways Candy money be gan buying VK ar Stamps instead Shortages began reallv striking home, and Saturday afternoons found manv attending a newlv initiated first aid class INO small adjustment was necessary wh n substitution of April achievement Tests for une College Boards was announced, but we took it in stride of course But the more serious side of life did not prevent the con tinuance of many good times and initiation of others Our skating partv for the Red Cross in anuary had not only quantities of ice but great success as did two informal sings with Taft Came spring vacation we rested, came back prepared for anything and got it How well I remember the day when I stood all alone before the faculty, holding with shaking hand the sheets of paper containing the results of two months' hard labor my essav But I didn't make anv fatal errors Spring brought with it rob1ns and snow storms, the drawing to a close of our senior year and harried excitement mingled with pangs at being so near our own une. The banquet brought filaritv to the fore. Every weekend saw hectic activity on all sides: another Alumnae Day, the Song Festival, when we played hostess for a most enjoyable day, that final essay reading. Those last crowded days were minutes when graduation was so near, even exams flew. -Xnd then there was the mascot hunt, uzzerly my stifyfing, the unior picnic, and so many other things? Senior VK eek brought rehearsals and relaxation till Saturday yy hen our festivities began. Here, too, were evidences of change from previous years, but the occasion was no less bright for the difference. Saturday night brought the beginning, fun galore at the prom, and Sunday Baccalaurate service reminded us of the more serious aspects of Commencement: Class Day, speeches, awards thinking next year well be alumnae coming . .1 - C b orccrt ionciay' night took tne place of the traditional play, and Tuesday -feeling my knees suddenly melt as I walked up to receive my diploma. f VVhen to the sessions of sweet sil t thought -but Im getting sentimental.
