LOUIAN 1923 ur Teachers 4C ntmued from page 1 1 want to knou what krnd of boys we are turning out and not wh t krnd of tables the boys are turning out We found Mr Dooley whose home rs rn Kalamazoo and who has specralrved rn the kind of manual trarnrng and mechan rcal draurng that turns out boys trained rn the essentials that make for success rn lrfe Mrss Boyles rs principal of the Junior hrgh She has the assrstance of mfmv of the special teachers and Mrs Dahlm who has been teaching rn our schools since the second semester of lrst year Mrss Boyles has been teaching, for eleven yc rrs and came here from VVheeler where she was an instructor Her work here has been of the hrghcst character for she IS filled with dynamic en thusrasm Mrs Saunders was promoted this year to the prrncr palshrp of the Umon Grade school and Primary school She rs fr born drscrplrnarran and has established rules and This rs the third year rn our schools for Mrs Grant and Mr Newton Mrs Grant has part of the fifth grade and Mrs Newton part of the srrcth grade Both have been very successful Mrss Swem came here from Parrs, Mrchrgan where she had been teaching Shc rs 1 graduate of the Central State Normal and rs teaching part of the fourth grade The Misses Doyle and 'Whipple are new teachers rn our system but from an observation of the work they are doing one can see that they re making good Both are Central State Normal teachers Mrss Benkleman who torches part of the second grade rs a graduate of C ss Crty High and of the Central State Normal After teaching rn Vassar she came to St Lours This rs her second year with us She rs excep tronally fine MRS LhfFIE DAHLIN MRS HARRILT 'XIEWION courscs of studv th rt will graduate students to the High School of the highest order Mrs Saunders has been teaching for nine years It seems odd to find so many schools whrch do not have a kindergarten or rf they have one rt rs but a new addrtron St Lours established rts Kindergarten back rn the 90s and rt has long been recognized as an rntegral part of our school system The transition from the home lrfe with rts great freedom to the lrfe of the school wrth rts restraint rs without a krndergarten too abrupt and fre quently arouses rn the child an antagonism towards school that rs hard to overcome With toys games and storres we are 'able to bridge over thrs period and arouse rn the chrld a desue for the realrtres and possrbrlrtres of the fu ture Mrs Wood the wife of Supt Wood rs the Kinder garten Supervisor She attended Valparaiso University, Marian Ind Normal and had work under Prof Hall of Columbia Unrversrtv Mrs Wood has taught for years rs a member of the Columbra Dames, and rs a degree teacher Mrs Rebecca Dole graduated from St Lours High and from the Central State Normal She taught two years before going to Berwyn where she spent five very suc cessful years After seven years experience she began her work here having a part of the thrrd gr rde She rs especially adapted to thrs krnd of work Mrs Mary O DePeel rs a graduate of Ithaca High She recerved her normal trarnrng at Mt Pleasant, after which she taught for five years rn the crty schools at Duluth Mrnnesota For the past two years she has been very successful rn her work here Mrss Knause who has a part of the first grade rs well known to the people of St Lours having taught here for the past nrneteen years She came here from Green Vrlle Mrss Knause has taught continuously since 1883 and about a year previous to that, makrng a record of forty years The last twenty four years she has devoted to primary work rn whrch lrne she rs considered partrcu larly successful PQ EIGHTEEN Iro ' T 21 ' c . 1 '31 . . ., . , . . . . 1 . u 11 ' I ' L I I , .
