Though the Vikes fell short of their ex- pectations throughout the season, support and enthusiasm were seldom lacking from neither the students nor the team itself. The squad had gotten off to a bad start with a defeat handed to them by long time rival, Joliet Catholic. From that point on the team was plagued with costly injuries and strong opponents. Yet even in such dif- ficulties, the team was able to make im- pressive showings such as a 41-0 victory over Julian and an exciting 21-20 Homecoming win over St. Francis de Sales. Unquestionably the game of the season, the Homecoming game with St. Francis provided both excitement and cheers for everyone. An exciting and relatively close half was followed by an exceptionally good half-time show by the Gold 100. The se- cond half ended in the Vikes favor who held a small, one point advantage over their opponents. The Vikings ended the troubled season with an overall record of 3 wins and 6 losses. 160 f Varsity Football Right: Jack Brice and Mr. O'Neill confer about the next play. 1 fllruzh sinh Supl! if in CEUUEI Start The Freshman and Sophomore Football teams at St. Laurence are not noted for their great performances, it was not dif- ferent this year, but a usual much promise was shown on the field and great talent began to develop. Though the Sophomore record was a poor 3-5 on paper, things were looking a lot better for the young Vikes in the future. They will no doubt be of great aid to the promising crop of Juniors going to be seniors next year. The Freshman team too showed great development individually, but just could not pull it together on the field. Their record reflected it but not their spirit and determination. There is much hope for both these teams of young promising Tottom: The Sophomore Football Team. Qfront rowj Coach D.
