% ii rrrmar i i TBi ' FOOTPRINTS 1958 SAINT JOSEPH ' S COLLEGE FOR WOMEN Brooklyn, New York r  •• , «m« VSftl In a kaleidoscopic city like New York, subtle pressures from every direction, St. Patrick ' s Cathedral to New York Hospital, Coney Island to Greenwich Village, Museums, Libraries, Theatres, synthesize character and knowledge, blending, molding, plying, twisting. In no other place is the process of educa- tion exactly the same; in no other place are the influences so lasting and yet so imperceptible and varying. Through the years, there is integrated into the student ' s personality a vast number of diversified subjects, the result of the tensions and pleasures, bustle and guiet of the city. At St. Joseph ' s College there is in miniature a city within the city. « •  - %« To what extent these outside forces sway the individual is determined to a high degree by the person to whom they are applied. The basic t raining of the student channels these forces into their proper perspective. It bridges the gap between the sheltered aca- demic life of the college-city and the numberless events, people, ideas, and philosophies of the city-world. Mold- ing the raw material — sifting and sort- ing and teaching — culminates in the fashioning of a woman exposed to, but above the cross-currents of the city. An education that reaches many cli- maxes but never ceases; an unending cycle of starts and finishes. For every twilight there ' s a dawn.
