Twinkle-Star was announcing herself to little Joan whom the dusk, the sandman, and the English boxwood were hiding from Nurse Withers. Fairy whisperings beckoned Joan to follow. And Joan followed. Up, up, up to the moon she followed and sat with Twinkle-Star on that planet's crest. A wave of the fairy's wand brought dancers from nowhere to the moon's ends. In turn they interpreted the spring, the summer, and the winter of life. Twinkle-Star told Joan that the dancers would show her the youth, the maturity, and the decline of life, that she couldiexpress her preference and enjoy it always. She need not bother with the periods of life she did not cherish. Youth danced in a sprightly fashion and smilinglyg Maturity, with a slower step and diligently, Decline, feebly and regretfully. ,loan considered all three. Her, heart went out to Old Age, the very serenity of Maturity awed her. She was about to express her preference for Youth, in all its color, when something like a breeze swept her through a mist to the ground. The awakening thud disclosed the darkness about her. If she could but find Nurse! She wouldgrow old as other people did! She would give up her fairy youth! And the listening fairy, believing Joan, led the frantic Withers to the child. 6'Corne,7' said Withers. And Joan followed in the way of a natural child. -MARGARET EDEL OLDHAM. ana , .. .-.e ,f,f I ' vnupirj .. 5 ' f.: ., s . .9 saga f I -1 '.
