DEDIEATIUN We, the senior class of 1950, lovingly dedicate this Year Book to Mother Mary Victoria who, this year, cel- ebrates her Diamond Jubi- lee as a sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Most of these years tell a tale of pioneer days in Arizona. In 1897 Mother Victoria came from St. Louis to Prescott where she taught a number of years at the 01d academy 0n Marina Street. After a sojourn of twelve years in California where she had been superior at Monterey, superior at St. Vincents in Los Angeles, and directoress of St. Marys Academy also in Los Angeles, Mother Vic- toria was appointed super- ior at the present St. J0- seph,s Academy in Pres- cott in 1915. In 1923 she was appointed head of St. Marys Hospital in Tucson. During her term as superior there four new buildings were erected and the sanatorium was completely modernized. It was also at this time, through Mother Victorias efforts, that St. Marys Hospital received its highest credentialserecognition by the American College of Surgeons. From St. Marys, Mother was transferred to the old St. Josephs Academy in Tucson. The purchase of the Belin estate, which is the site of the present St. J oseph,s Academy in Tucson, was another of Mothers successful undertakings and has resulted in the permanent establishment of Villa Carondelet. In 1936 Arizona bade Mother Victoria farewell as she left for the Motherhouse in St. Louis to serve six years as General Councillor for the Western Province. Once more St. Josephs Academy in Prescott welcomed Mother Victoria as superior in 1944 on her advent from St. Louis.
