Beautifully engraved. it adds a note of dignity and beauty to the occasion. Embossed in red and silver, the seal gives prominence to the school colors. The shield within the outer circle is borrowed from the coat of arms of the Sisters of Notre Dame who have been teaching in St. Ioseph's, Fremont, for a period of 77 years. While every detail of the shield is deeply symbolic of the spirit and traditions ot the Sisters, its maior points present many significant aspects to the students. The flaming lamp ol early Christian Rome is the symbol ot living faith: the lion, king of beasts. is the emblem oi courage and strength: the eagle, monarch of birds, suggests spiritual vision: the lily honors Mary Immaculate, patroness of the United States, and the tossing waves and tive-pointed stars are also emblematic ot Mary. - 2 .. Class Song THE HALLS OF IVY Oh, we love the halls of ivy That surround us here today, And we will not forget Tho' we be iar, far away. To the hallow'd halls oi ivy Ev'ry voice will bid farewell, And shimmer off in twilight Like the old vesper bell. One day a hush will tall. The footsteps ol us all Will echo down the hall and disappear, But as we sadly start Our iourneys lar apart, A part of ev'ry heart will linger here In the sacred HALLS OF IVY, Where we've lived and learned to know That thru' the years we'll see you In the sweet afterglow. In the treasured haunts of mem'ry We shall cherish every day, Though fortune's sun beam clear Or cloudlets hide its ray. In the pleasant haunts of mem'ry Every smile will live again And Iriendship's loyal handclasp Will renew love's refrain. New iriends will come our way. New problems till our day, New places be our stay As time goes on. But we shall linger yet With friends we can't forget In moments we shall spend In mem'ry song. In the sacred dreams of mem'ry Let us ioyfully recall These years of trusted friendship Strong and true, one and all. Having lost eighteen lettermen from the 1953 season, the coaches, players, and fans did not look forward to an outstanding season. They were fully prepared for a rebuilding year, but to the Sur- prise of all, the team showed a winning form. The players replaced those holes in the linc-up with a true fighting spirit, winning six out of the nine games - a record few schools can hope to attain in an off year. Each of the games had all the thrills which one could expect. Some were complete routs while others were as close as anyone could ask for. To start the season off with a bang, the Joemen captured a decisive victory over the Genoa Comets, 20-18. The second team to fall before the Streaks' onrushing tide was Elmore. This second victory of the season and the nineteenth straight win in the SBC tallied 20-12 at the final gun. Scoring 21 points in the last quarter to add another victory to their win column was the story of the Joemen's rout of Fostoria St. Wendelin's with a 27-0 score. A hard- hitting crew from Sandusky St. Marys proved to be the first team to stop the Streaks. The intercep- tion of five St. Joe's passes really threw the wrench into the Joemen's gears. At the end of the hard-fought contest the Panthers were on top, 18-0. It was another rainy night as the gridders from St. Joe's met the Clyde Flyers. With both teams st ill scoreless at the half, the Flyers managed in the third period to edge over the goal line for a TD. Th is proved to be the only score of the game. From this defeat we then saw the St. Joe gridmen facing the formidable Tiffin Calvert team. When the first period ended, the score stood 13-0 in favor of the Tiffinites. During the second quarter the Streaks showed a sparked offense. Passes connected, holes opened, enemy passes were intercepted. This rally continlled throughout the entire game. The final score of the thriller was St. Joe, 343 Tiffin Cal- vert, 20. Inspired by what seemed to be a complete about-face in spirit and playing, the Streaks met the reputable Oak Harbor Rockets. In the second period the Streaks scored two touchdowns. The final score of the battle was 12-6. Next on the Joemen's schedule loomed the Gibsonburg Golden Bears. This game proved to be St. Joe's third defeat of the season. Brilliant running on the part of Gibson- burg backs was the winning factor. Because of injuries several regular Joemen were unable to play in this crucial game which ended 34-0 in favor of the Bears. Bringing their nine-game schedule to a close, the Crimson Streaks won their sixth victory in a battle with Lakeside, 24-7. Thus ended the season of 54 for the Streaks. They have established a fine record, a record tfar superior to the majority of SBC teams in a rebuilding year. A firm foundation was laid for the 55 team, thus giving us every reason to feel sure of the SBC title next season. A relatively green squad met the challenge by racking up a record of l6 wins over 5 losses, two ot which were inflicted by Class A teams. Starting the season with a bang, the Streaks scored five impressive and successive victor- ies over Green Sprlngs, Norwalk St. Paul, Gibsonburg, Genoa. and Fostoria. St. Ioe's momentarily lost their shooting eye as they bowed to the Norwalk Truckers. Next the Ioemen fell victim to the red hot quintet from Toledo Central, the Toledoans scoring 102 points in the contest. An inspired band of Mohawks from Fostoria. St. Wende1in's scored 22 tree throws to overcome the Ioemen, 54-52. After three defeats the Streaks got back on their feet with SBC victories over Clyde, Oak Harbor, and Elmore, thus clinching the SBC title. Other victories registered by the St. Ioe quintet were over Gibsonburg. Huron, and Tiffin Calvert. Woodville nipped the Streaks in a fancy shooting display. Thus ended the seascn with a fine record of l3 wins to cnly 4 losses. Follow- ing up a highly successful season, the Streaks went on to win the Protest Tournament for the second straight year. Protest Tournament St. Ioe's scrappy squad and the dangerous dark-horse Crestliners were seed- ed in the Protest Tounrnament. The Streaks came through with tournament victories over Rosslord and Clyde. In the finals, the Ioemen won a thriller over the formidable Crestline team, 77-69. District Tourney With two trophies in their pockets, the Streaks drew a bye in the first round of the District Tournament. They were then to encounter the winner of the Iackson Liberty - Vanlue game. Outsized by the Vanlue quintet, St. Ioe's bas- keteers were crossed otf the tournament sheet, 62-45, by the victorious Vanlue squad. Sponsored by Fremont Oil ...64...
