In the early going Stan Madrid was a standout in the distance races along with Poncho Gonzales and Paul Gri- Iey. The FroshfSoph team had an early record of 2-2 as the team showed strength in the distances and field events. Manuel Montes 54 JV?-Bmc.6f and Tony Gonzales were early sea- son standouts in the two-mile. Tom Prukop as shot putter won first in each of the early meets. Pat Ortega won a medal at the Downey Invita- tional. ln the pole vault Robert Mecklenburg and Ralph Nicastro won medals as well.

fetus PowwQjB As of publication the 1980 Varsity Track team was having an outstanding ear with a record of 6-1. The highlight f the season was the 84-43 thrashing f Notre Dame. This was the first time 8osco had ever beaten the Knights in a track meet. Leading the Braves this year were the captains: Mark Samson in the shotput, in the 880 and 440, Steve Fillet in the hur- dles, and Victor Paredes in the sprints.
