This was the third year that the surf club has been in existence at St. John Bosco. The club got a late start this year as it held its first meet- ing in the second semester and its first competition wasn't held until March. Keg Club Does tlwjob The Key Club led by Mylin Wat- kins and moderated by Mr. Lamp had a very successful year. The club fulfilled its purpose of service to the school and community through vari- ous projects. The club tutored at St. Dominic Savio with Richard Wolitski going four times a week. Eric Robin- son and George 0'Gorman helped out the Bellflower Chapter of the Special Olympics by sacrificing a few Thursday nights at Thompson Pool. The most noticeable members on campus were Jose Mendiola, Jay Gutierrez, and Robert Zolg who did a find job taking money at the bas- ketball games. Ocetwwgfzaphy Qailli nf The Oceanography Club, moder- ated by Mr. McConnell, offered a wide range of activities for Bosco students who were interested in such areas as marine biology and ecology. Club members participated with the Los Angeles Harbour Department in collecting examples of marine life and testing samples of the harbor's water and bottom for pollution. The students used a geo- logical dredge to collect bottom A plant and animal life. During one collection a rare heart urchin was found. Prehistoric Mastadon tusks have been dredged up on other trips. The members planned an underwater hockey team to com- pete with other local teams at vari- ous swimming pools. With Sam Ynzunza as president and chief motivator the club enjoyed another successful year. 2 1. MA. lwakoshi views the sting ray that was dredged up. 2. P. La Combe and Ft.
