Sr. Buchana teaches U.S. History, is the Chairperson of the Social Studies Department, and is the moderator of the Model United Nations Club. Her teaching qualifications in elude an MA in history from Loyola University in Los An geles. BA from the University of San Piego. and post gra- duate studies at Pepperdme University of Colorado. She en loys swimming, stamp collect- ing, needlework, and prayer sessions and retreats for young people MARIAN SHACKEL Ms. Shackel is in her third year at St. Genevieve teaching Eng lish. Drama, and Religion. She is a former graduate of the Holy Names College with a BA in Honors English. MIKE RODE Mr. Rode received his BA in Mathematics, attending Col- lege of the Canyons and UCLA. In his fifth year, he is Chairper- son of the Math Department as well as a Math teacher. He is also Athletic Director. Fresh- man football Coach, and Co Moderator of the Senior Class. His interests include sports of- ficiating. MITCH SAUNPERS Mr. Saunders is a graduate of LMU receiving his BA in Psy- chology with a minor in reli gion. In his third year at St. Genevieve, he is a counselor and teaches psychology and religion classes. He is busy as moderator of the Unity Club, coaching and campus ministry. Besides his field work with chronic psychiatric patients he enjoys camping, running, read- ing, and meditation. His com ment to the school was. Thank You. JOHN VANGRINSVEN Mr. VanGnnsven teaches Alg e bra I.. Math Review, and Geom- etry. A graduate of California State University. Northndge and an alumnus of St. Gene- vieve, he enjoys tennis, body surfing, basketball, and rock music. He is head basketball coach and senior class faculty advisor. Ear better is it to dare mighter things even though checked by failure, than to live in a gray twilight that knows no victory nor de feat. ROGER WHITE Mr. White is in his second year at St. Genevieve teaching Latin and Spanish. He attended UCLA and received his BA. MA C. Phil in Classics. He enjoys reading, bicycling, book lee ting, and traveling. col- RUDY TRUJILLO Teaching seniors the Religion Marriage course is just the be- ginning of Mr. Tru illo ' s duties in his twelfeth year at St. Ge- nevieve. As well as being Assis tant Principal, he is Dean of Studies, and Chairperson for several committees and activi- ties. Gardening and raquetball are some of his leisure time in- terests. A graduate of Loyola University, he completed his graduate studies in psychology and education at UCLA and USE. ART VENEGAS Mr. Venegas is teaching Span- ish at St. Genevieve for his sixth year. He is the Chairper son of the Foreign Language Department and moderator of the Spanish Club. He is a gra- duate of St. Genevieve and CSUN. He received his BA in Spanish and a minor in Political Science at CSUN. His interests include coaching, track, view- ing sports, weight lifting, and antique collecting. 167

SR. PAULA MODAFF S.P. Teaching religion, being chair- person of the religion depart ment. and counseling are the responsibilities of Sr. Paula in her fifth year at St. Genevieve. She received her BA from St. Mary of the Woods in Indiana and her MA from Univeridad Shers-Americana in Mexico City. Biking, hiking, camping, gardening, and reading are Sr. Paula ' s favorite hobbies. In short there are three things that last; faith, hope, and love and the greatest is love. I. Cor. 13:13 BRUCE PATNOU Mr. Patnou attended USC re- ceiving his BA in English. He received his teaching creden tials from Cal Poly, Pomona. He is in his second year teaching English and Developmental Reading He is the announcer of the Valiant Football home games. He also enjoys Graphic arts, athletics, and music. KEN OISTAD In his third year at St. Gene- vieve. Mr. Oistad is teaching Sophomore religion. He is a lso involved in J. V. Basketball and is Junior class moderator. He attended high school in Palm Springs, he went on to UC Riv- erside with graduate work at IMU. His interests include vol- leyball, basketball, backpack ing. and cross country skiing. Hey. She is a CSUN graduate with a Bachelor of Science and teach ing credentials in Home Eco- nomics. She enjoys cooking, sewing, macrame. and needle point. She also likes to water ski, swim, and play tennis in her spare time. GARY PAYNE Mr. Payne is in his seventh year coaching and third year teaching Physiology. Science Themes, and World History. He attended College of the Canyons. University of Texas, and CSUN. receiving his BA in Physical Education and a minor in Health Science. Mr. Payne is head J. V. football coach. EVANGELINA PILIEN Ms. Pilien received her BA at Ear Eastern University She ma jored in math and minored in physics. She took graduate courses in math at the Catholic University. Her in terests include knitting, cro- cheting, sewing, and garden ing. GINNY POWELL Mrs. Powell is in her first year teaching Spanish I and II at St. Genevieve.
