'r X Elite Qlruzahvr 43 U Mamgzcw the Chapel By the vast mayorlty of the v1s1tors 1t was proclatmed a gem ot eccleslastrcal art The altars made of the beautttul cepolrn levanto rosato and madre creme marbles aga1nst a background of oak artlstlcally lllumlnated rmpress us at once as the pr1nc1pal obyects ot devotron rn rt No pams were spared to have them str1ctly l1turg1cal and th1s feature of them strlkes many ot the v1s1tors as umque The Tabernacle on the Hrgh Altar for lnstance stands free of the fradme It has a cuborlum suspended over 1t but one ot the stde Altars has a Tabernacle and other deta1ls wh1ch are not generally observed rn churches The panelled oak cetltng remlnds one of the old monastery churches lt IS h1ghly lllumlnated ln brrllrant red and blue colors after the style of the old monks The church belng the marnsprtng ot therr actlvrtxes the monks who were expert artlsts and craftsmen spent therr best efforts on beautrfymg the House of God ln our day as always rel1g1on should hold the tlrst place rn man s hte and 1t was to th1s end that the Founder of th1s school the Very Reverend Iustxn FIQGS lnslsted on beautltytng the Chapel The Churches bullt by the monks of the early and medreval tlmes were prrmarrly tntended for the1r pr1vate use ln ttrne the falthtul at large began to attend the SGTVICGS ln them so that they were obllged to reserve one part ot the church for the la1ty and the other for themselves The balcon1es that flank the sanctuary are a rel1c of those tlrnes It may not be am1ss to note that the wood screens wh1ch ornament these balcontes as well as the two contesslonals 1n the Chapel are consrdered masterpreces of the woodcarvmg art Leavmg the Chapel one may descend to the ground floor of the burldxng wnere one w1ll f1nd the k1tchen Wlth the most modern equrpment Ad1o1n1ng tt 1S the d1n1ng room where Wholesome meals are served to the student body A barbershop trunk room and laundry room are located here as well as a spaclous gymnasrum for basketball and other lntra mural act1v1t1es Netct to the gymnasrum IS a small audrtorlurn contarnmg a movable stage and motlon plcture apparatus MOVIES are shown to the students every Saturday nrght fwhrle dramas mlnstrel show and other stage plays take place tour trmes a yearj On th1s flool also one wlll fmd two very well equlpped recreatxon rooms one for the Sentors and luntors and the other for the Sophomores an t Freshmen Here the students enyoy radlo musrc and lndulge rn varred table games dur1ng the recreatron perrod The mam floor contarns a large study hall where the students are requrred to spend a certa1n number of hours to msure mtelle tual progress Here also the varrous assemblres are held dur1ng the school year A ltbrary possessrng a cholce collect1on of several thousand volumes and a1d1ng the students ln the1r research work 15 found on th1s floor as well as the followtng a brologxcal and physlcs laboratory equrpped so as to r1val those of any ftrst class hlgh school a mustc room where the musrcally mrnded boys may pursue thetr mustcal stud1es and modernly turnrshed classrooms The top floor contarns the Reverend Pretects rooms These two Fathers keep constant watch upon the boys and m1n1ster to thetr wants and needs Four spacrous and well ventrlated dorm1tor1es an mflrrnary lavatorres and bathrooms are located on th1s floor St Francls Hxgh School rs a Catholrc boardmg school ofterrng to boys from Buffalo N Y and elsewhere a College entrance course lt IS chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York Throughout the enttre tour year course great tress ts lard upon the relrgtous moral and mtellectual tra1n1ng of the boys --'in ,,--'q ' ' ix .v- - .h J , , . , .
