SPALDING -- The Beavers opened the season with a 46-6 victory over Spalding. Case, Smith, and Moore lead the offensive attack. Merrell, Saunders, and Evans played good defensive ball. Smith led the Beavers with 18 points. CEDAR RAPIDS -- Not playing the brand of ball as was seen in the first game, the Beavers put on a poor showing the first quarter. They began rolling in the second quarter, however, and came home on the long end of a 34-12 score. Each one on the first team scored. WOOD RIVER -- The St. Edward Beavers traveled to Wood River for their third game of the year, and came home on the short end of a 44-28 score. This was the Beavers first loss. Moore got 16 points to lead the Beavers. PALMER -- The Beavers got back in the winning column with a 66-22 win over Palmer. The second team played about half the game. Merrell, Saunders, Case, Smith, Evans, and Lantz played good defensive ball. Case and Moore each got 24 points for the Beavers. PLATTE CENTER-- The Platte Center Explorers defeated the Beavers by a score of 53-38. With first string quarterback Ron Smith out with an injured back, the Beavers backfield wasn't up to full strength. Merrell, Baker, Bailey, Case, and Saunders played good defensive ball. 22

Moore -- Bill as a senior held halfback position. He is a good runner, passer, and is a three letterman. Also did the dropkicking. Saunders -- As a junior playing end, he was a good pass receiver, and blocker. Terry was good on defense and is a two year letter-man. Case -- As a junior playing fullback, the 175 pounder hit hard both offensively and defensively. He was the top pass receiver, and is also a two year letterman. Merrell -- As a senior played center. He was a good defensive and offensive man. Also a two year letterman. Baily -- Don as a junior played end. He was a very good defensive man. Evans -- Played end as a junior. Was a good pass receiver and good blocker. He is a two year letterman. Lantz -- Played end as a freshman. Was speedy and has lots of promise for the following year. Weed -- Tony as a sophomore played halfback. He has good promise for the following year. Baker -- Played center and as a freshman has lots of good promise. Eckland -- As a sophomore played quarter-back. He acquires many promises for the following year. 21

SACRED HEART of GREELEY -- The Beavers scored their fourth win of the year with a 49-12 win over Greeley. The first team left the game at the end of the third quarter with a score of 30-6. Then in the fourth quarter the second team scored 19toGree-ley's 6. Weldon, Lantz, Case, Saunders, Meridith, and Eckland led the Beavers. LEIGH -- The Trojans of Leigh rolled over the Beavers by a score of 46-12. Leigh with a big backfield and a hard hitting line proved to be too much for the Beavers. Case led the Beavers on offense with all 12 points. RISING CITY -- The Beavers got off to a bad start, but in the second half and rolled up their fifth victory of the year. Ron Smith, back in the lineup after missing three games, helped the Beavers to a 44-26 win. Smith, Case, Lantz, and Moore led the offense. Saunders, Evans, Smith, Case, and Merrell played good defensive ball. ST. MARY'S of O'NEILL -- Playing their last game of the year the Beavers got off to a fast start, and led 34-0 at the half. The reserves played most of the second half, and failed to score as the game ended 34-7. This game marked the ending of the high school football careers of the seniors Smith, Moore, Merrell, Weldon, and Meridith. 23
