All the world’s a stage To foster interest in dramatic art and to give opportunity for creative expression in play production, the Purple Masque has long been the S.E.H.S. dramatic club. Limited to 24 members this exclusive organization stands as one of the most coveted of memberships. Try-outs before the clubs officers determine the chosen elite. Eddie Cooper, Denny Moore, Carvel Reynoldson, Gayle Collins, Ardath Milburn, and Jo Lightner gained membership this year. Officers and old members are Norman Scott, president; Muriel Shell, vice-president; JoAnn Swanson, secretary; and Beverly Swanson, treasurer; Mary Ellis, Myrna Milburn, Don Moore, Donna Potter, Bob Carter, Connie Clark, Hal Hasselbalch, Patty Novotny, Bob Raitt, Lee Ellis, Delores Evans, Jerry Flaherty, and Daryll Raitt. On March 15 three 1-act plays were staged. Suitable for Charity, a comedy, included Denny Moore, Muriel Shell, Don Moore, Jo Lightner, Eddie Cooper, Lee Ellis, and Mary Ellis in the cast. A drama, High Window, was presented by Dee Dee Iverson (non-member), Don Moore, Milford Myhre, Connie Clark, and Beverly Swanson. The most elaborately staged production was For the Love of Allah, a folk farce of the Alabama back country. Norman Scott, Myrna Milburn, Jerry Flaherty, Hal Hasselbalch, Ardath Milburn, and Patty Novotny had roles in this play. PURPLE MASQUE Norman Scott

Collins, B. Swanson, J. Westmore, J. Flaherty, R. Fischer. Voice of the Students ... Milford Myhre Student Council organization of S.E.H.S. student body was initiated in December of 1948. Maroon editorials by Norman Scott gave impetus to action on the long-fermenting idea for a council. Principal Augusta Anderson in September appointed Milford Myhre, Sonny Edmunds, and Robert Westmore as a senior committee to study the question. Organization presidents Rex Fischer, Jerry Flaherty, Bob Raitt. Don Moore, Norman Scott, Evelyn Reardon, Muriel Shell, and Nhdine McColl joined in the task. On November 5 a constitution was presented to the students; on November 8 it was declared ratified. In its semester of operation the Council has sponsored after-game dances, an allschool carnival that grossed 8350, and numerous smaller projects. The two-house council consists of a 12-member Lower Council and an Upper Council composed of Council officers and sponsors. The officers and members are Milford Myhre, president; Beverly Swanson, vice-president; Rex Fischer, secretary; Norman Scott, treasurer; Sonny Edmunds, Robert Westmore, seniors; Connie Clark, Hal Hasselbalch, juniors; Delores Evans. Jerry Flaherty, Don Olson, sophomores; Gayle Collins, and John Westmore. freshmen. Mrs. Augusta Anderson and Mr. Walter F. Peterson are sponsors.

JUNIOR CLASS PLAY With ticket sales topping the S185.00 mark, the Junior Class cashed in on the proverbial popularity of the “western ' story in the three-act comedy, M'liss—My Western Miss by Virginia Mitchell. The play, based on the famous old story by the immortal Bret Harte, was staged in costumes of the 90’s. THE CAST (in order of appearance) Mrs. Moffits—Hotel Landlady...............................................Germaine Werts Yuba Bill—Comic Cowboy.........................................................Bob Carter Carter Langdon—City Villain................................................Hal Hasselbalch George (Bummer) Smith—Old Prospector.......................................Gene Cumming M’liss Smith—Bummer’s Young Daughter................................................Connie Clark Clara Hunting—Mysterious City Woman.................................................Muriel Shell Clytie Moffits—Landlady's Pretty Daughter..................................Dee Dee Iverson John Grey—Young Schoolteacher..................................................Bob Raitt Bess Starlight—Traveling Actress....................................... Donna Thompson Judge McSnaggley—The Law.....................................................Larry Baker Bill Weed acted as stage manager; Nellie Zabka was business manager with Beverly Swanson and Patty Novotny in charge of ticket sales. Others assisting on committees were Shirley Nordeen, Marilyn Francis, Donna Phillips, Earl Stephens, Clifford Jaixen, Jim Lightner, Doris Buck, Kathleen Taylor, Jim Davidson, Lyle Reed, Joe Coan, Helen Shotkoski, Mildred Brown, and Bill Snavely. Mr. Raymond L. Conley directed the play; Mrs. Augusta Anderson had charge of make-up. i
