Cage crew Varsity players are, 1. to r., Ned Cantwell, Pete Brekhus, Norm Feddersen, Captain Ed Blakely, Coach Bob Bates, Mike Mealey, lohn Blakely. and Hubert Pelch. St. Bernardine's qot oil to a good start with with a team that looked as if it could take the Arrowhead League championship. Then first-string center Mike Mealey had to drop oil the team due to an iniury received during loot- ball season. First-string forward Vern Marlo moved to Kansas, and to put the Crusaders in deeper trouble, first-string Paul Castillo trans- ferred. Iohn Blakely, Ned Cantwell. and Pete Brekhus stepped in to help alleleaquers, Ed Blakely and Norm Feddersen. The only Cru- sader reserve, Hubert Pelch, did a good job ol filling in when needed. Undermanned, but never outplayed, was this year's B team. lt's not hard to see why this small but spirited band was known as the Little Crusaders . Bee's are, l. to r.. Mike Butz, Tom Eshelman. Coach Bob llgenfritz, Mike Matern, and Ed Rubio. Iames Riqney and Owen Ditchlield also helped the team to progress. Old Faithlulsu Iim Williams and Tom Eshel man were part ol Coach Bates' cage crew Sul lering the trials of sports' managership for football, basketball, and baseball made then' realize that old Crusaders never die they o'ly work away .
