St. Basil Academy is, in a sense, a small America - a mixture of many nationalities working to make it what it is today, outstanding in so many aspects. Traditionally, our school is Ukrainian. And so, it has been a tradition to preserve our beautiful Ukrainian culture in songs, dances and artistic embroidery. Therefore, for this reason, we have organized a Ukrainian Club with singing, dancing and embroidery divisions. Our club is called Veselka. The girls who are active in this organi- zation, upon request put on shows in our own school public schools as well as ladies clubs, and thus help to spread the knowledge of our homeland to other peoples. To the average on-looker, Ukrainian dancing seems simple. True, simplicity is beauty, but it takes time to master the steps so that they are done gracefully. The Ukrainian songs differ in their melodies and meanings. But, due to the fate of Ukraine, many of the songs are sad and melancholy. Embroidery is really an art. Each section of Ukraine has its own designs, making this even more interesting and colorful for the students who do an embroidery along the course of their membership in the club. All of us get a genuine satisfaction carrying out our assignments that help us have a deeper understanding of our own culture. I

Jolie oments ilfwe Qsyzare at Cgclzool Judith Bilbee pays her tuition to Sister M. Carmela, Kathleen Waite is next in line to pay hers. nDon't peek into my diary, says Maureen Higgins to Cath- erine Helmick and Stephanie Kacedan. Autumn is beautiful, but it brings much work, Nancy Clark and Helen Olijnyk rake the leaves behind the building. Upon graduation we shall leave behind many precious things but we shall also carry with us a wealth of remembrances so that these moments will live forever. Of all the times that are precious to us the moments spent informally are perhaps the most treasured. Hours spent in a carefree way, culti- vating friendships and storing happy memories are times cherished by every Basilianette. Glamour need not be added, a gab session over a coke is enough to bring and hold memories. The every-day walk up Fox Chase Road, the hours browsing through the library and the spring days spent iust relaxing are to us the most endearing days of high school life. Our boundless energy always found an outlet in those times engaged in an impromptu hockey game. Our countless problems were always answered by simple visits to the chapel, moments at the grotto. lt is these memories of cherished days that we will take with us to keep golden. ? 'W-was . ,,
