Cgaalent and cgngenuitcg Gomprise Shadows, nc. 9 As we enter the fifth year of the Shadows Inc., we want to thank you, dear parents, for the cool touch of your remembering helping hand. The talents we have found here in ourselves have been brought about by the everlasting encouragement you have always shown. Sometimes, we like to look back to our drawing- coloring book days when the world looked so big ahead of us, and we remember that it was our parents who even at that early date encouraged our talents. In number we may be small, but our work is varied from the advertising in the corridors, to the patron drives, operettas, and the annual painting contest held at Strawbridge and Clothier in Jenkintown. Our high ideals and our artist dreams came true through you dear parents. f 5 4 4 sxfei c.,. be 4- xggeig LV M -A , -.47 . MQ .c.,., Q -f' 6. 2 ,- crgee ' if - if Q. 5718 Glzrysostom hapter of ana! Scroll Dr. Joseph Carter, professor of journalism at Temple University, speaks to the student body on the qualities of a journalist. Seated on the stage is Barbara McHenry '59, below the stage-Judith Johnston '59 and Oksana Styn '59. fxiii fgall, ann! gmail .4 . ..g., -Q 1-1' r ig if The Chrysostom Chapter of the Quill and Scroll Installation. Quill and Scroll is a relatively new club at S. B. A. lt is an international honor society of iournalists. As it is an honor society, the regulations for membership are strict. However, if a girl is on the staff of a school publication, and is scholastically in the upper third of her class, she may be eligible for membership. The Chrysostom Chapter of Quill and Scroll has been active for three years. Each year in the springtime there is formal induction into the society. Usually a distin- guished journalist is present to address the students and to award the honors. It has been a custom at S. B. A. that only seniors receive this honor. Staff members of such publications as the Basilianette, Basilian Torch, Laureate, and Vdaf are eligible. Many people refer to the iournalists of the school as unsung heroes. The labors are great but rewards few. Quill and Scroll membership is a reward for this labor. It is an expression of appreciation and a thank you for a iob well done.
