atlzfetics The very fact that men have always engaged in games and sports shows that the desire to compete is a basic part of human nature. Saint Basil Academy has satisfied the hunger of this type of appetite in human nature for we have been able to take part in many sports. Autumn found hockey sticks clashing on the field, winter vibrated with the sound of a basketball on the auditorium floor and spring gave way to volley ball, soft ball, track, or swimming. We as a class, however, subiect to these influences, were not passive like wax receiving the impression of a seal. We found the most useful pattern in working harmoniously with others as citizens in a society. We, as teams, acquired the basic tendency to co- operate with our fellow citizens. This attitude is the very heart of society-common action for a goal. We also recognized the fact that co-operation often involves adiustments, for our wishes and desires may clash with those of other persons, in other words- competition. ln all the games only one team could win and no matter whether we were the victor or loser we tried to take the result in our stride. Now, that we as Seniors, are going to take our positions on the teams of the world - teachers, parents, nurses -we hope that in the competition we will co-operate rather than conflict with our fellow men. lll
