Religious pamphlets are made available to the retreatants for for spiritual reading. After the renewal of our baptismal vows, fol- lowed by the Papal Blessing, Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament closes the retreat. Christians Show Way to Christ vincing these students. During the annual retreat on january 28, Reverend john Hoorman, C.PP.S., director, provided the students with a sound spiritual program. Emphasizing the need for Christian thinking in combating the materialistic outlook in the world, our director assured the student body that faithful living of the Ten Commandments would insure happiness now and in eternity. Father described an effective Christian as one who combines joy and love for others with a practical prayer life. Hard working sophomores install sidewalk cafe. Willkommen im Hof Brau I ,,1,.......,.3. G5 Linda Nicassio supervises the planting of ivy decorations. In presenting their dance, Hofbra1f'Hop, the sophomores ex- tended warmth and friendliness in a typical German manner. The decorations of multi-colored Christmas bulbs, strung along the walls of the auditorium, supplied a unique atmosphere, further enhanced by a sidewalk cafe set up on the stage. Refreshments? ja,wohl ! Old fashioned steins were filled with root beer, and wicker baskets on tables covered with red and white cloths, con- tained pretzels. Music by the Cresremlos invited the guests to join their friends for an evening of old world fun and hospitality. Du, du liegst mir im Herzen . . . all agree that it is wunderbar. 89

Looking forward to another fascinating session with numbers, Marianne Kandel, Nancy Braun, and Patricia Duffy sign out for their trip to Loyola University. ee 4 Members of the Pasadena Youth Council, Kathleen Ross, Nancy Perry, Elaine Vilven, Malinda Gadi- ano, Anne Reilley, and Sylvia Marchetti represent St. Andrew's at various meetings. Throughout the year, energetic and eager students have participated in a number of worthwhile off-cam- pus activities. Invited to join the Pasadena Youth Coun- cil, representatives from student council joined young people from the surrounding areas to discuss current events and common problems. Outstanding School Mathematics Study Group students attended weekly classes at Loyola University. These and other endeavors of industrious students were rewarded by a sense of accomplishment, and in some cases, by highly deserved scholarships. X
