From David Copperfield to Macbeth, the four years of English at St. Andrew's cover a wide range of literature and writing. Sophomores bringing with them a solid foundation in grammar, learn to recognize and avoid run-on and fragment sentences. Numerous essay assignments, though dread- ed, teach the juniors to organize their thoughts and to reason logically. Since ideas achieve their full value only when com- municated to others, the skill of writing clearly and interestingly is developed in Eng- lish IV. Reading is stressed throughout the four-year program as students span the centuries from the English epic of Beowulf to the modern American drama of Our Town. English Illustrations add interest to a report given in English II. 26 s ..- ' Senior students of English become acquainted with people, plots and places of Shakespeare's England.
